Need Information About Charlotte

U.S.A. North Carolina

I live in the Ft. Lauderdale, FL area (was born and lived in S. FL almost my whole life) and I'm really looking into to moving to Charlotte, NC. My husband and I are renting and real estate is SO expensive here that I don't know if we'll ever own anything (3 bedroom starter homes in a decent area start at $350,000+). Is Charlotte nice and could I get a nice three bedroom house for around $150,000? Also my husband is Hispanic - do you think he will feel comfortable in Charlotte? We are used to a very multi-culteral atmosphere. thanks for any advice!

im living in houston, pay and housing great, but im bored.i want to move to somewhere with a breeze and lots to do.trying to decide between charlotte and raleigh any suggestions ?i know im going to take a pay cut but it will be worth it for lifestyle.what is the average price for a 3 bed,2 bath.not bothered with schools as we have a 22yr old.thanks for all your info on hospitals.

I live near Charlotte, and I am a native, so I prefer here of course. :D

To check out homes, go to http://carolinahome.com/ the local MLS listing.

Charlotte is like any other city, the further you move from the city, the better the area. Many people are moving to the surrounding counties because of crime and taxes.

Good luck.

:welcome:IM INTERESTED IN A CAREER IN NURSING.BUT REALLY NERVOUS ABOUT STARTING AS AN RN.NEVER WORKED IN THE MEDICAL FIELD.I WAS THINKING ABOUT ECPI OR ROWAN CC. WHATS THE SALARY FOR A NEW GRAD AS AN LPN.ALSO WHAT DOES AN LPN DUTIES CONSIST OF?WOULD APPRECIATE ALL THE INPUT AS POSSIBLE.(NC LPNS PLEASE GIVE ME SOME INSIGHT)

henryswife...regarding EPCI...Great school, however very $$$ oh and they also have (thus far) had a 100% successful passing rate-NCLEXPN ...as to starting salary for new grads /LPN, here in Wilson I found out is between $16.00-$18.00 per hour. I am guessing that perhaps in your area given that its a bigger town, the pay would be higher..

As to what duties LPN's do, well since I am not yet one..:uhoh3:...I'll wait along with you and see what others will post and add... Best wishes to you whatever road you choose..

I,m sure its competitive in your area. I live 20 minutes outside of Raleigh and I have been quoted 16.00-22.50 for LTC and 13.00 to 14.00 for hospitals that employee LPNS. Duties are pretty much like RN's except some places won't let you push IV meds and you cant administer blood. Check you local BON for a complete a complete run down of duties.

Hi, I will be graduating in December from RN school and plan to move to the Charlotte area. I just wanted to get some info. on which hospitals are good to work for in that area? and if anyone knows if any of the hospitals there hire new grads in the OR?

hello! I am interviewing at Carolina Health System's main campus in 3 weeks for the STICU. I'm so excited to finally be moving to Charlotte! I was just wondering if anyone has any information they'd be willing to share about the charlotte area, as far as where are some of the better places to live for families ( 5 year old and 9 year old). We are planning on renting first, to have time to look around before we buy, but even where you rent (we're looking to rent a single family home in a neighborhood) is important. We will be moving over christmas break, just after Christmas day, so we have some time to look around. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi -- where are you moving from? I work for CHS, but in a clinic setting right now (really hoping to transfer back to acute care in the next few months.) CHS is HUGE; they're buying out every facility they can get their hands on. All in all I'm satisfied with it; they've got some great bennies but can also run a tight ship.

What does your spouse do? Does s/he have anything lined up? I don't recommend anything in banking or IT; my DH was in it for a few years and it is a revolving door with downsizing and outsourcing. He finally started his own business and is doing OK.

As for good parts of the city to live -- a lot of it depends on your budget; the south side of Charlotte is booming right now, but we live in University City in a lovely and very affordabe neighborhood. At any rate it's a buyer's market. We don't have kids so I'm not all that familiar with the schools. Two referendums with huge implications for the city schools and public transit just passed in last week's election; it remains to be seen how they pan out with tax increases and improved services. Options also exist in neighboring counties.

We have been in Charlotte for 3 years and overall, we love it. The weather is great, the cost of living is great, and the economy is sound. If you're a Panthers fan, though, I can't offer much encouragement :uhoh3:

Feel free to PM me if you have more specific questions. Best wishes to youl

A girl I grew up with lives in Matthews and loves it.

Anyone attending PSN @ Queens University? I will be attending my first classes there as a transfer for the ASN program. Excited isn't the word for how I feel about this. Does anyone here have any suggestions for the school or instructors? Anyone starting their first year this January?

Hi!

Queens is a nice school, have you completed your pre-reqs yet or do them through the program?

I have abnormal Psych and Micro to take at the school, that's it. I can't wait to start though. Do you attend Queens as well?
