Nclex results on hold Brain dumping

Nursing Students NCLEX

i dont even know what to do. i took my nclex for the third time. computer shut off at 75 questions it took me an hour.i know for a fact that i passed. my test results are still on hold. when i got to the computer before the employee puts in their log in. i started writing lab values on my board, the lady was standing right next to me and didnt say a word. i read the rules i know. but i dont know how this slipped my mind. after a lot of research apparently its called brain dumping and is considered cheating. i dont even know what to do. i think this is why my exam is on hold. i wrote down 7 lab values but i didnt even get a question that required me to know lab values. also i took my nclex in a different state than the state im going to be licenced in. my licence is for Texas but i tested in California. can this be a reason for the hold as well. i have called the nursing board but no one is giving me a straight answer as to what is going on. has any one been in the same situation please help. im going crazy here

I think the lady who saw you write the lab values down, reported you. I think you can fail the test for that.

"On hold" simply means that they're reviewing your exam and, in your case, probably reviewing the video footage to determine if any rules were violated. Unfortunately, brain dumping is not allowed and you may be disqualified because of it. There's nothing you can do at this point but wait and see the outcome of their review.

Results in CA can take up to 4 weeks. According to the website, they are currently processing those who tested Dec. 1-15. You can check for updates here:

CA is notoriously slow.

Okay update. I paid for the quick result and I passed!!!!!!!!!! My name is not on my nursing board yet. Which is giving me a whole other level of anxiety!!!!! Can they refuse to give me a license because of the brain dumping. Even if pearsonvue says I passed.

Can someone explain to me how brain dumping is considered cheating? I honestly don't know.

I believe that the pearsonvue results just mean you have passed the exam, as in you scored high enough to pass. I do not believe it would take into account if you are under review. I do not think those results are official, it is only official once you receive your hard copy by mail.

Please correct me if I am wrong but this is how it works for national registry EMT exams, which are administered through pearsonvue.

Brain dumping is considered cheating because it doesn't indicate that you actually know the information. You could have looked at a bunch of numbers or facts right before walking in and then written them down to keep from forgetting them. For this reason, you are required to wait until you have begun the exam before you can write anything down. Whether or not brain dumping is cheating is debatable. What is not debatable is that writing before the exam begins is a clear violation of the rules.

Pearson VUE is responsible for reviewing the test and determining if you passed, failed, or were disqualified. The board of nursing does not do that. However, I don't know if the quick results factor in exams that are under review. You may need to wait for the official results, or call Pearson VUE again to be sure.

Regardless, do not expect your name to show up with a license number for several weeks. That is standard processing time for the BON.

My name is on the board of nursing. I am an RN!!!! Maybe when they reviews my video and board they say that the labs I wrote down were useless as I didn't have any questions that required labs. Finally I am an RN!!!!!
