NCLEX questions vs. study questions

Dear Already have taken NCLEX folks:
I have a goofy question.....Are the questions you did while studying similar to those that were on the NCLEX....style-wise....I am sort of worried that the questions are going to be set up very differently than from what I have been studying (Lippincott, Mosby)....
Does this make sense??

The Kaplan Question Trainer CD is the one that comes closest to NCLEX-style questions, in my opinion. I have heard that there are others out there that are similar to NCLEX, but of my materials, it was only the Kaplan Question Trainer.

I've heard ncsbn is very similar too. It has more priority questions on it than Kaplan. http://www.learningext.com Kaplan is good too.

My favorite is still Saunders, hands down. They do the best job of explaining rationales behind each answer, whether the correct one or the incorrect one and this is just as important when preparing for the exam.

Hello-

I used the Mosby CD and the 3000 question cd and I found them both to be very similar to the styles of questions that I got on NCLEX.

NCLEX questions are in a world of their own...honestly.

I would have to say that they're closets to Kaplan, NCSBN and Mosby's.

No matter what the study material you decide to use, make sure you review the answers and rationale....you'll never know when a similar question will pop up on NCLEX...and it's nice to know the answer. :)

You know what...I was just thinking. I mentioned that Kaplan came closest to the set up of NCLEX questions, BUT, I think Saunders CD was best for content & explaining why EACH answer was incorrect. That was the one that helped me with remembering Addison's disease, etc. Although the questions were not set up like NCLEX, it was good for practicing questions.

Also, from what I have read in my Kaplan Coursebook, NCLEX asks questions at the application/analysis level & that's the kind of questions that one should be practicing.

On my Saunders CD, there was one section of questions that I was doing that were almost all analysis/application. There are some that are comprehension, but not too many. So, I think as long as you are answering analysis/application level questions, you should be fine.

The Kaplan CD has 7 tests, & to be honest with you, I only did tests 1-5 & then mainly used Saunders after that.

One thing I noticed on the Kaplan Question Trainer CD is that they don't consistently give rationale as to why certain answers are not correct, which I needed to know in order to understand. In my opinion, they focused more on getting you to use their test-taking strategies. Good luck.

I got my hands on a Saunders Book today quite unexpectedly and I really like it...I wish I would have had it 2 months ago when I really began to prepare for the NCLEX.....

I used all of the above along with a book called Good Thinking: Test Taking and Study Skills for Nursing Students 2nd ed.. It is very close to NCLEX and Kaplan. The book comes w/o a cd but the rationales are very good. You can do 30/45/60/90 test questions, all are at the application level. There is also a section on how to deal with test anxiety. I bought the book at free nlcex workshop at on of our local hospitals. I think that you can buy the book online. The website is http://www.statnursing.org

i am using the saunders book and I find it truly helpful....the explanations and rationales have improved my content and analysis abilities...

Kaplan Question Trainers are the best. I passed the NCLEX last wednesday, and i owe it all to those questions. Question trainers 5, 6, 7 are pretty much feel like the real NCLEX. Score around 60-70% on question trainers 6 and 7 and i say u're prtty ready to take the test. DO NOT study mosby. It's good for content, but test wise, it's not very challenging--- too easy! Kaplan (the $500 review course or you can buy the CD) and SAUNDERS are your best bet.
