NCLEX 2014/Kaplan

Published

Hey everyone!

I wanted to start a thread for those taking NCLEX soon, whether this summer or simply sometime this year. I'm actually taking mine within the upcoming week!

**activate panic mode now** :nailbiting: haha

I want us to be able to share tips, what we found helpful, what didn't work, and of course once we pass!

I took the Kaplan course and also found it helpful when people shared their scores, so I could relate and feel just as confident in their success. (What else is this website for, but help and comfort during chaos!)

So, my scores have been as follows:

Q bank: 100% complete at 64%

Q Trainer 5: 66

Q Trainer 6: 60

Q Trainer 7: 63

Readiness test: 64

(I did all the q trainers, but the beginning ones multiply times after a month or so, thus scores aren't completely true?)

How is everyone else doing!?

Best of luck; we're almost to finish line!

just finished the nclex. 213 questions and 6 hours later the computer shut off... ran outta time... bad sign?

Just because you ran out of time, that doesn't mean you failed. From the NCSBN brochure:

What if I ran out of time?

When a candidate runs out of time before

completing the maximum number of items,

the candidate will pass if their ability estimate

has remained above the passing standard for

the last 60 items. The candidate will fail if their

ability estimate was below the passing standard

for any of the last 60 items. This, however, does

not mean that you have to answer the last 60

items correctly.

Fingers crossed for you!

so last night and this morning i got a pop up that stated my "results are on hold"

now the message has changed to: "our records indicate that you have recently scheduled this exam. another registration cannot be made at this time"

it DOES NOT state "please contact your BON for further assistance" like everybody else's "good pop up", but is it still a good sign?

I am taking it in early July (graduated in May, and I'm the only one in my class to get an ATT thus far -- got it this week). I did the ATI Live review, but that was the week after graduation, in mid-May. I studied a little here and there since then, but we were hearing it might be at least two months (from now) till we got to test, so I wasn't trying to burn myself out. Now that I have a date, I am freaking out and studying every night after work for at least 4 hours. ATI gave us access to practice exams, and said once you get 60% or higher on those exams you are good. I've been scoring above that on everything, but last night I had a weak performance and all I can do is review then retake the same test -- which stinks, because I know the answers to that test now. SO, I am going to get an NCLEX book tonight (the one I was using was outdated), and I wish I knew which book's questions are most similar to NCLEX questions, in terms of level of difficulty and question format. I just want this to be OVER! :nailbiting:

Jill, I'm in the same boat as you! My school requires us to get the 'green light' before taking the NCLEX. I have found ATI to not be very helpful the more I use it because as you said, when you do poorly on an exam they have you take the EXACT same test again. I swear that I have now memorized (not on purpose) all of the ATI answers and rationals. ATI needs to get their crap together and get a bigger test bank of questions. I have decided that I'm going to pay for the Kaplan qbank and finish them all before I take my NCLEX. I figure that it would cost me more money to retest and because of lost wages, that I am just going to take the plunge and pay for it. I am also using Saunders 6th edition to study and answer questions (although the questions are a lot easier then I think the NCLEX will be.) It's still a good book to go over content and their test bank is HUGE! Good luck to you and happy studying

Nurse2bMN - what do you mean by "get the green light" from ATI? We had to take (as part of our program, not part of the Live Review) the ATI RN Comprehensive Predictor, on which I scored a 99% likelihood of passing NCLEX on the first attempt. I felt good about that at first, but now I'm wondering if ATI is really up to par...

We were required to do Virtual ATI which is essentially just going through each module (pharm, mental health, fundamentals, med-surg, etc.) study each area and take assessments at the end. We have to get above 60% on each assessment. After each module is complete, we take the Final Comp Predictor and must get above 92% chance of passing in order to obtain the 'green light' to take the NCLEX. We took a different ATI Final Comp Predictor when we graduated and I scored at 90%. After completing all of the modules we took a different comp predictor (than the one we took upon graduation) and I scored lower (86%). It might just be me but I can't put all of my trust into ATI. Their test bank isn't big enough and I find it hard to believe that my score would actually GO DOWN after going through all of the modules and studying like crazy. I'm sure with a 99% pass rate you will pass with flying colors! We can and WILL pass this NCLEX beast!

I'm trying to upload the screenshot of my message... But it did not state to contact my sbon either. And I passed.

thank you kjrober! and congratulations!!!!

Passed Wednesday with 75 questions (official results posted this morning!). I found the Kaplan questions harder than the NCLEX questions, which is fine with me!

Here are my Kaplan scores:

Diagnostic: 60%

Readiness: 67%

QT#1: 56%

QT#2: 64%

QT#3: 62%

QT#4: 59%

QT#5: 57%

QT#6: 66%

QT#7: 65%

I did 60% of the QBank, and scored 61% overall.

My school used ATI, I didn't find it as helpful as Kaplan. I feel like Kaplan questions better prepared me for the exam, it had a better range and a lot more questions so it wasn't easy to memorize them like ATI questions.

Posted this in another thread:

Here are my scores for the ones Ive done so far. I test next friday:

Q#1= 52

Q#2= 63

Q#3= 59

Q#4 = 63

Q#5 = 63

63 seems to be my magic number so far. Q bank score was a 60% with 100% completed. Readiness was a 62 with diagnostic a 55.

I dont know, still havent hit the magic 65 on anything and I have 1 week left. Ive also been doing the Lacharity book which I like. Going to be doing QT 6 on Sunday and 7 on Tuesday. Runbaby you are giving me some hope since our scores are pretty similar.

Qbank: 64% with 85% complete

Diagnostic: 62%

Q1: 67%

Q2: 63%

Q3: 63%

Q4: 57% (tried to do with cruise ship internet? Bad idea!)

Q5: 64%

Q6: 69%

Q7: taking Thursday

Readiness: 66%

My exam is scheduled for next week :-/ my biggest struggle areas are basic care and comfort (63%), management (60%), and reduction of risk potential (61%), and Health Promotion and Maintenance (51% - ouch!)

It feels like I'll never be ready! @.@

So my with my Qbank 100% done I'm at 64% and Q7 which I took today was at 68.3% and I test the beginning of this week....those scores are not promising :-/ advice or anything?
