On one hand, getting a degree in nursing is a big step to fill "a medical background", especially of you don't feel like you would enjoy it. Would the pump training accept a few years as a CNA/UAP instead? On the other hand, you might find a passion for something you had never expected while doing clinicals. Where I live, there are RN's that specialize in diabetes education, which encompasses more than just insulin pumps. Maybe make a list of pros and cons.. I think that term was even on the paper we had to read before registering! Haha. I also had the über security.. Even after using the restroom! Palm vein scan to get back in, along with my ID. It raised my anxiety level for sure! Sent from my iPhone using allnurses

Hello! I used kaplan! And passed the NCLEX last week. It was not offered as part of our curriculum, but a supplement after pinning. As far as the decision tree, I feel that it trains you to slow down and really look at the question. Are you assessing or implementing? Is this a question that wants the good/safe choice (cue the famous demonstrates teaching is successful) or are they wanting a bad choice (the nurse must intervene when). When I first started with Kaplan it frustrated me because I wanted to use the tree and the 'rules' all the time. When I stopped being frustrated, I was able to decipher what the questions were asking. The Kaplan questions are VERY similar to NCLEX questions. Even the layout of the qtrainers and qbanks looks like the NCLEX. I did between 75-150 questions a day, never more than that. Our kaplan instructor said more than that was useless. I studied rationale on all questions and wrote down things to study as I took practice tests. Hopefully that helps! Sent from my iPhone using allnurses

Just because you ran out of time, that doesn't mean you failed. From the NCSBN brochure: What if I ran out of time? When a candidate runs out of time before completing the maximum number of items, the candidate will pass if their ability estimate has remained above the passing standard for the last 60 items. The candidate will fail if their ability estimate was below the passing standard for any of the last 60 items. My diagnostic Kaplan was a 63%, and the readiness was a 68%, my average in qbank (I completed 95% before taking NCLEX) was 62%. Time got away from me and I didn't complete QTrainers 6&7, but I got anywhere from 59%-67% on the first 5. I did 2 sample NCLEX (which seemed pretty much the same as a qbank with all topics to me!) and only got 59 on them. I feel like the questions I got on the NCLEX were a bit harder than Kaplan, but maybe that was just me! The best example I have is instead of prioritizing 4 patients with 4 different complaints, I had to prioritize 4 patients with the same complaint, but different symptoms, labs, and histories.. (not an exact NCLEX question.. I signed the agreement not to disclose test info, and I'm not about to get in trouble! haha) But I think Kaplan helped me with my thought process, and helped slow down my immediate click reflex Best of luck!
