Hi Everyone :)

Just wanted to start a thread for everyone that's applied to the Navarro College ADN-RN program starting Fall 2012.

Figured we needed a place to post, ask each other questions etc. while waiting on our acceptance letters..... I was told they won't be sent out until the end of May. Has anyone else heard otherwise?

LOL! I just read the last question about the bridge students. Josh, I'll let you take that one... :D

I suppose it would be best to email Josh questions, eh? :) I think I asked Mrs. ___________ all the questions I could think of at the time. It would be nice to hear about these bridge program guys. :)

So is everyone ready?!?!?! What is everyone bringing with them to orientation? We do not have to wear anything specific or has anyone heard otherwise? Also, I received the email conforming the day and room but not the time. Has anyone got word on what time we should be there? I have been searching for some comfy shoes but have yet to find some solid black (or white), with no mesh or logo. Has anyone found a good pair? I am so excited for this new journey we are all about to start together!!!

Hi shalynn :) Orientation begins at 830. Did you go to your file check? I got an agenda printout from the instructor. We have to bring a binder with paper and page protectors to put the handouts in. Also, need to download the handbook to a flash drive and bring that as well. If you want a copy of the agenda, PM me your email address and I'll send it :)

Have you guys looked through the handbook? I skimmed every page and only one thing stood out: No gum chewing (not sure if this is just for clinicals or what) to prevent contamination...which kills me! I don't chomp or anything, but gum keeps hunger away (and my growling stomach), which in turn helps with concentration. :p Besides that the rules are fine. lol

I think what I'm looking forward to regarding orientation is the beginning of preparation for what's about to start. We'll get the basic info and schedule that's gonna be crucial to how we do. As soon as I can after orientation, I'm gonna come home and start getting to know how the system will work. Anticipating it even more as the days go by!!!!!! :) Still kinda sinking in...we're gonna be nurses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Out of the 100+ pages, Tim, what stood out was the gum chewing? LOL :) in my microbiology class, we had the same rule--- but, the teacher just said she didn't wanna see it. ie. no chewing like a cow or blowing bubbles ;) I am a gum chewer as well... So I'm hoping for some lenience within the rule.

Wow Tim you read the entire handbook? I've glanced over it but haven't had much time to really read it, algebra is taking up most of my time right now. I had to cancel my file check so I didn't get a printout of the schedule for orientation day.

My immunizations are suddenly an issue, though they've had an updated list for 2 months now, they decide to tell me just a couple of days ago that its not complete. Though I had chickenpox as a child, they require the 2nd varicella shot, which would've been nice to know when I was getting all my other shots updated. Oh well, what's one more? It's just irritating. So I'll just get my file checked off at orientation.

Other than my immunizations and finishing algebra, I'm good to go. Everyday I wake up, I can't help but be thankful that I made it this far and am one step closer to my dream.

Mrskennedy- check your messages folder!! I sent you the orientation schedule weeks ago :) (because you were asking times etc in a prior post) ;)

Thanks RED, I appreciate it!

red- yes!!!!!!!!! hahaha there were many pages that we've already seen, that we have, etc. my micro class was the same...which makes sense. :p chomping and blowing bubbles is annoying to all and could get you sick (microbes and whatnot), but chewing with your mouth closed is different! lol if the world was ending and i had to choose between money or gum...it'd be gum: money loses value (if the world was ending, wouldn't matter much anyways), but gum only looses flavor. :D

mrskennedy- nononooooo. hahaha just skimmed. :) no time to read that book just yet. in regards to immunizations, i was in the same boat as you. you might not need the vaccination. just go to the doctor, get some labs run (cheaper than the shots by a long shot) and see if your immunity is good enough. mine was, and when i told the doc that they might not accept it at nursing school, he called mrs ___________ and got it approved...so i don't need any more hep b or varicella. :) i really do hope that you won't have to get the shots...pharmacies around the waxahachie area were in the $300 range for both shots, 1 round. you might try to find a baylor works clinic. i got one round with them absolutely free. :)

I went and did file check yesterday but I didn't get a schedule for orientation. Red can u inbox it to me please! :) I decided against taking Nutrition for summer 2, she told me I would be off next summer 1 and could take it then. $ low and didn't want to spend on a class!

I'm getting pretty nervous! How about y'all? It's getting here so fast!

Tim - Luckily, I have insurance and injections are covered. I just have to go in and tell them what I need. I have all of the Hep shots, but the nurse told me that most consider having chickenpox and the first varicella shot sufficent, apparently our school doesn't. I just have to go get the second varicella and HOPEFULLY that will be it.

When I went for my physical before applying for school, I had to update my shots (6 at one time!) I guess Mrs.________ does not know that the Twinrix shot is (which is a combo shot with Hep A&B.) I have to get the injection nurse to sign my record telling her that I've completed all of my shots. It's just a headache to have to go back and do this all over again.
