Hi Everyone :)

Just wanted to start a thread for everyone that's applied to the Navarro College ADN-RN program starting Fall 2012.

Figured we needed a place to post, ask each other questions etc. while waiting on our acceptance letters..... I was told they won't be sent out until the end of May. Has anyone else heard otherwise?

I don't think that's part of it. Bc if that's the case, mine isn't complete either. Lol. Hopefully she'll email us again.

Does anyone know what kind of stethoscope is better than others ? I am looking at the Littman Classic II S.E. because I have used this one years before at work, but I dont know if it is a good one for nursing students.

Good question, Makey. I guess it depends on what you need/want. I got the Littman Cardiology III, which has clearer sound, etc (I like it because it's easy to hear, very definite); however, this particular one is expensive. If you used the Classic II S.E. before and it worked good for you, it might be what you need. :) Were you happy with the Classic II S.E. for work purposes?

tim- yes, i was really happy with it. However, I was using it for vitals and listening to belly sounds and other ER things. I never tried to hear heart or breath sounds with it so not sure how it will do as far as that is concerned. I would rather get an expensive one I can hear great out of then have to replace a less expensive stethoscope in our second semester cause I cant hear.

a little under 7 weeks before classes start. not that i am counting down or anything. : )

makey, I'm definitely counting down!

I start College Algebra on the 16th and have already run into conflicts with my class schedule and nursing appointments. :(

My CPR class is on the 18th which is my second day of class, I'm hoping my instructor will let me leave a little early since my class ends at 12 and CPR starts at 1. I really don't want to be a pest, but I can't miss CPR. ALSO, orientation just happens to fall on a class day which also happens to be the day she scheduled our mid-terms. Of course we can't miss orientation so I'm crossing my fingers (again) that she will let me take the exam early/later. Thankfully after algebra I am completely finished with everything except nursing.

In regards to the stethoscope, I have the Littmann Lightweight II S.E. Though I wanted the more advanced steth, I opted for the cheaper one after reading such great reviews on it. Most people claim that this one is obviously lighter and easier to wear but is just as good in quality of hearing. I thought for starting out that this steth would be perfect and the price was great as well. Either way, you can't go wrong with either the Classic or of course the Cardiology III. I think it all just depends on your ears and own affordability. (Just remember guys, those Littmann steths are coveted and many have said they had theirs stolen, so engraving is a good idea!)

I can't wait for this journey to begin!

Did my file check today :) Orientation will be 830-230 on the 1st. I got given 2 ATI books as well.. We will get them every semester. Just wanted to let y'all know.... Exciting :p

Thanks for the info Red!

did they say if we need to bring anything for orientation???

Makey yes, there are a few things we'll need to bring to orientation.

*Surscan receipt *Receipt showing you purchased the lab kit

*4mb-8mb flash drive w/student handbook downloaded on it

*3 ring binder (with inserts for any papers handed out), pen/pencil

*A jacket (just in case...they say it could be hot/cold in the room).

Thanks tim..have you heard anymore about the drug test? I guess that will happen before school starts.

Thanks for all the information guys, I know we all like to be prepared, so this really helps! I already have a binder ready to go and I'm sure I can find my old flash drive. I'm still waiting on Financial Aid to release their refund dates, I'd like to know when to expect my funds so I can purchase my books and such.

Orientation sounds like a day full of information, I will definitely be taking major notes!
