Hi Everyone :)
Just wanted to start a thread for everyone that's applied to the Navarro College ADN-RN program starting Fall 2012.
Figured we needed a place to post, ask each other questions etc. while waiting on our acceptance letters..... I was told they won't be sent out until the end of May. Has anyone else heard otherwise?
Idk, the email seemed to want us to go to these file checks. "If you cannot keep this appointment you will have to wait for file checks on orientation day -and it takes a while, with the other students who could not come on the appointment they were given." I don't want to be in the group that just couldn't make it...I wish I could just call and see what is needed from my file...because I can't be there in person. It's like choosing between a smoothie or a sundae...hahaha
I'd choose smoothie over sundae I honestly don't think it's a big deal... They are just trying to make it easier on everyone I'm assuming. Just think, if 1/2 the people can make it to their appointments then only 35 need checked at orientation whih means less waiting for you and less time they have to be there too :) I would much rather be getting valuable patient care experience at a reputible hospital than spending 5 minutes going over my file contents... I have everything complete, I've checked it myself lol on the checklist that was in the attachments of the congrats email :)
HAHAHA good choice! To me both taste good, and both make me happy (screw the health benefits or the lack thereof, haha).
Good point. :) See my file "from what _______ can see" is complete (from her previous emails to me). I have immunity to HEP B and Varicella, so I don't "need" the last one of each...but what if somehow I do need them? I guess that's all that's worrying me.
If any of you guys have read some threads about how volunteering is worthless, consider it (if you would like to do so). The Hospital I am volunteering at (Methodist Dallas) has a phenomenal program, and there is patient contact...although it's not even close to what we'll get in nursing school. :) Even so, there are opportunities to see the "goings-on" in many different wards. :) There's a 100hr commitment, which may or may not be a deal breaker.
Ok guys, she changed my appointment to the 24th instead of the 10th, which is fine with me but could be annoying to someone who had already made plans. I'm sure she changed my date due to the fact that I had mentioned I would not have my CPR completed until the 18th of July.
Speaking of CPR, I found a AHA BLS for HCP class in Waco at Providence hospital for $40! That will save me money on gas (since Waco is closer to me than Corsicana) and money on the class as well. If anyone is close to Waco and has yet to complete CPR, I would look into the class on July 18th, they have 6 spots left.
Tim - Volunteering is such a wonderful reward and I would definitely not pass it up just for a file check. And remember, it will look great on your resume after nursing school!
Has anyone else heard about Navarro being one of the hardest schools in Texas? I've had many people say that to me after they as me where I'm going to nursing school at. I was also told by my mother-in-law that a girl she used to babysit applied to Navarro but could not get accepted, but was accepted instead into UT-Tyler. I thought that was crazy!
Also, (sorry I've had a cup of coffee this morning and am full of energy) I read some past posts on the forums from 05-07 about Navarro's nursing program. People were claiming that they were scamming people out of money because it was "too hard." Sounds to me like they couldn't keep up and instead of trying harder, were blaming the school for their failure.
Anyway, hope everyone is having a great day. We're only 29 days from orientation and 55 days from our first day!
I got my email too I'll be there on July 24! I think I have everything completed... Hopefully lol.
Tim that's great that u r volunteering wish I could but can't commit to that many hours. I love Methodist and I'm hoping I can get sm clinical time at charlton methodist. Is they the only volunteer prog they have? Wonder if I could do some with less hours, I have no hospital experience and would like to get some in site on how it will be.

I received one too, for the 10th as well! We still have to go to the main orientation, right?
