My 9 year old patient was raped and required surgery

I currently have a 9 year old girl I am taking care of on unit. She was raped resulting in surgical repair to entire pelvic floor and also needed a colostomy. As I change her sheets and such I just don't know what to do. I cry everytime I walk in there. I just want to hold her. She isn't allowed visitors and she is so scared. My heart is breaking. Any advice?

I just found this thread and read the whole thing. God Bless you and that little girl. It seems you definitely were put into her life for a reason. All I want to do now is go home and squeeze my baby girl. It astounds me how a parent can hurt a child in such a profound and horrendous manner. I have to ask, though - I didn't see too much speak of a mother. Was she involved? Did she get charged as well?

Thank you. From what I understand the mother's involvement was allowing it to happen, I thought they were going to charge her with child endangerment or the like but as far as I know they haven't arrested her. My pt. told me that her mom came in the room when it was going on but her dad yelled at mom so she ran out and didn't come back in. So, I feel like something should happen to her I just don't quite know what the punishment should be. It seems as though the mom has been severely abused by this man as well and maybe too scared to step in, thought not an excuse at all. I would've went back in with a gun.

Please don't waste any more emotion worrying about what lies ahead of you. God is merciful and won't desert the two of you when he's brought you this far. She's beginning to blossom and will heal and flower under your love and guidance, now that she's a part of your family. The trick now is to go from minute to minute and not think day to day or farther.

I have been following this thread from the very beginning. I am heartsick for this little girl, and so happy that you have found each other. One of my daughters suffered unimaginable abuse prior to my adopting her, and if I can give you any advice - it would be to get the book Building the Bonds of Attachment by Daniel Hughes. Please PM me if you would like to talk more.

I'll tell ya, I will never understand how a mother could allow that to happen to her child. I agree, I'd probably kill him first. I know God will judge us all and it's not for me or anyone else to do especially never walked in their shoes. But, I think she deserves to be charged and locked away as well. When I hear stories like this, it really makes me wish there would be some sort of license you had to get before you could get pregnant or donate sperm. All the ineligibles would have to get fixed. God bless that little girl!

I have a wonderful update, my little one will be coming home with me tomorrow. She just has to have her antibiotics tonight, she's doing beautifully. The family is so excited in preparation of the new addition.

Why is there not a child advocate there to bond with this little girl and help her with her fear? God bless her,I hope she is not in alot of physical pain, but it sounds like it would be. I swear, its becoming epidemic anymore with child abuse in this world.

Umm, I am here with her all day long. She has a therapist and caseworker coming in as well. She is being well taken care of.

You've done a fantastic job of caring, nuturing and nursing. The social workers and therapist have too but their jobs are different than your job was and will continue to be down the road. You continue to do a great job.:heartbeat
