What is likely the reason for this?
Some patients get sore ribs lying in bed cos their pec muscles get all all squished up.
Wha....?
WTH? please disregard above answer
What, you all have never heard of the fatal condition sorus pectoralis ? This rare and un-treatable disease is caused by laying patients on their faces in reverse trendelburg for hours at a time. The effects of pressure and gravity force the pectoralii down the surface of the ribcage, causing excrutiating pain and eventually death.
DUH. what nursing school did you go to ?!
In my case, it WAS my gall bladder and I would have wished it was something as simple as acrylic sepsis from a contaminated knitting needle. Hold the hobo, though.
Same here. Classic GB sx. Only difference was it wasn't sudden; started gradually and went on for months because I chose to ignore it until it because unbearable.
To the OP:
When ever you have a CHF patient c/o chest pain, first listen to thier lungs, if the patient sounds like thier lungs are wet (gurgling) obtain VS, stop the IV and contact DR immediately!
To Everyone Else:
I never knew Acrylic Sepsis from a contaminated knitting needle could be so serious! The dilautid drip is a good idea, but, what if the patient is allergic to turkey??
