My friend thinks she failed the NCLEX and is devastated!

Published

If she fails then her pay goes from $20.00 to $10.00 per hour, she loses her $2,500 bonus and she will likely lose her house and possibly custody of her kids. She finished the test in two hours with 75 questions. She said that there were only ten that she was certain that she got correct. The damm thing is that she was the ONLY one in our Kaplan class to pass both the pre AND post tests. Also, she was scoring 60 to 85% on the Kaplan practice tests where it seems everyone else (for the most part) was in the 40 to 60% range. Does this make sense? Do most people who feel devastated after 75 questions pass or fail? I told her that one possibility was that she was doing fairly well and so most of her questions stayed hard due to the adaptive nature of the test. She did say that the last five seemed easy which caused me some concern.

Does anyone have any hopeful thoughts that might save her from calling the suicide hotline?

Tell your friend to just RELAX! Everyone and I mean everyone that I have ever talked to that has taken the NCLEX says that they think they failed and 9 times out of 10 they passed! Just tell her to relax and take a deep breath and don't stress about it. There is nothing she can do while she waits for her results. What done is done. Tell her to check the BRN website for whatever state she lives in, in about 2-4 days usually you can review your results then. If you name shows up then you've passed!

Keep us updated on her! Best of luck!

Brandi :)

I just happened to read the next poster after yours - cancer in a 5 y/o - by julielpn - I bet julielpn's friend would trade places with your friend in a heartbeat. Sorry if this sounds harsh but let's get things in perspective here.

Tell her to relax. It is a test. If she fails, she can take it over again. Does she think she got the last question right? Chances are if she did, then she passed. Even if not, there is always another chance to take the test. You are a good friend to care so much. Let us know what happens.

I agree with Brandi. Everyone, and I mean everyone, comes out of that test feeling less confident than when they walked int.

Ain't nothing to do but wait.

The worst that can happen is she fails, goes to $10.00/hr. looses the bonus, etc. But you what? She will be o.k. Life will go on. But there ain't nothing to do but wait.

I'll bet she passed. Similar to your friend: I passed both the pre and post tests at Kaplan, I finished in 2 1/2 hours, I had 75 questions, I thought the last few were easy (which freaked me out), and when I walked out of there, I could only think of 2 I'd for sure gotten right. Our board of nursing posted my results the next morning by 9am -- and I passed. So I'll bet she's fine and passed too. But nothing to do but have faith and wait. I think she'll have good news.

Yea, she passed her name was posted on the State Board Web site today.

Here's a good question. Have you ever known anyone who failed the NCLEX that had the test stop at 75 questions, and who felt that it was an impossibly hard exam? My point is that if you fail at 75 questions then should be missing many of the easiest level questions. Even if you are missing these type of questions there is a good chance that you still recognize them as relatively easy (especially since many in this situation will be getting the easy questions correct, but failing to get the moderate level questions which actually count correct).

Congrats! I'm glad she passed!!!

I know more than one that has failed the test at 75 questions

It can happen, but in her case here, she made it!! Hats off to her

Yes, but did the people that failed at 75 questions think that their test was really hard? My point is that IF you feel the test was hard, and had 75 questions you probably didn't fail. That's because if you feel the test was really hard you were probably getting many of the higher level "hard" questions in which case you probably didn't fail.

I passed with 76 and thought it was not only a hard test but STUPID too.

Roland - I don't know how to answer your question. The test seems to me to be "pick the least stupid answer" . . . very frustrating.

I'm so glad she passed though.

Comments like this bother me. Reading the title of the thread clues you in to what it will be. If this topic disgusts you, don't read it.
