My friend thinks she failed the NCLEX and is devastated!

If she fails then her pay goes from $20.00 to $10.00 per hour, she loses her $2,500 bonus and she will likely lose her house and possibly custody of her kids. She finished the test in two hours with 75 questions. She said that there were only ten that she was certain that she got correct. The damm thing is that she was the ONLY one in our Kaplan class to pass both the pre AND post tests. Also, she was scoring 60 to 85% on the Kaplan practice tests where it seems everyone else (for the most part) was in the 40 to 60% range. Does this make sense? Do most people who feel devastated after 75 questions pass or fail? I told her that one possibility was that she was doing fairly well and so most of her questions stayed hard due to the adaptive nature of the test. She did say that the last five seemed easy which caused me some concern.

Does anyone have any hopeful thoughts that might save her from calling the suicide hotline?

Comments like this bother me. Reading the title of the thread clues you in to what it will be. If this topic disgusts you, don't read it.

I think you have misunderstood me here. I was merely trying to demonstrate that there are far worse things that can happen to people than fretting over an exam. Nobody died and the exam can always be taken again. Just my way of helping the poster put things into perspective. Sorry if I offended anyone and I don't recall saying the topic disgusted me.:o

Yes you didn't say disgusted in so many words. But when someone is in the NCLEX thread talking about NCLEX experiences, it dosen't mean that they don't know there are more important things in the world. I don't know if you have taken the NCLEX yet but as a nurse that has I know how nerve wracking it can be and how much reassurance you need. This person came here worried about their friend. It would be different if they were in the thread that was talking about the 5 y/o with cancer bringing up their concerns about the NCLEX.

Sorry if I come off harsh, its been a long day. But I also feel that if someone comes to the NCLEX thread to discuss NCLEX issues they shouldn't be told that there is more important issues. (We all know there are)

I passed with 75 questions & didn't think it was really hard. Challenging, yes....really hard, no.

Here's a good question. Have you ever known anyone who failed the NCLEX that had the test stop at 75 questions, and who felt that it was an impossibly hard exam? My point is that if you fail at 75 questions then should be missing many of the easiest level questions. Even if you are missing these type of questions there is a good chance that you still recognize them as relatively easy (especially since many in this situation will be getting the easy questions correct, but failing to get the moderate level questions which actually count correct).

Please stop overanalyzing these things. It does very little good other than to create undue anxiety, within oneself.

Each person's experience on NCLEX is different, just as it is with Nursing school, dealing with the BON, etc.

The best thing is to go in, JUST DO IT!!!, and wait for the result. You will either pass or fail, and can plan from there. Dithering about over the possibilities merely wasts valuable time and energy that can be put to much more useful tasks to one's life.
