Im still getting used to my first LPN job and i go home everyday in pain. When i finally go to bed, my feet are pounding when i elevate them. I just wanted to complain to you guys, since you've all probably been there. Thanks and Happy Holidays to all!!!

Ouch!!!that's also my problem...my feet hurt whenever I stand for prolonged period of time during shift...yes they're right, invest in a good pair of shoes then elevate your feet when you get home, that's what I do

Dear Netglow,

First of all, thank you for your esteemed comment. It is much appreciated.

I do not mean to sound contentious but I was always under the impression that cotton is good on skin. I will definitely try to read up on that. It is always good to have the "other view" and I thank you for that.

My feet kill me also but part of that is because I have lumbar spine scoliosis with a functional shortening of my right leg

Cotton absorbs excess moisture. Excess moisture is bad for feet. Therefore, cotton is good for feet.

Not everything posted here is accurate. MY doctor told me to always wear cotton socks under my work shoes. Not sure whay anyone else's doctor told them or what they might have read.

I didn't read through everything, but wanted to say that soaking my feet in hot sudsy water after work always helps...

All cotton socks hold on to perspiration and become abrasive = blisters and rough skin. Any runner or athlete knows not to wear all cotton socks. Doesn't hurt to try something different and see if it helps you :)

My lifesaver...Boca Klogs $50 & footless compression hose $25. World of difference!

Thanks! I was wondering if i should invest in those or an expensive pair of nursing shoes. But alot of nurses have told me they regret spending a lot on their nursing shoes because they arent that great. I think ill buy the dr scholls this week. Thank you!

Hey Nursie,

You should never try to save money or skimp on your feet. They are as important to your career as a strong back. Spoil your feet.......they are worth it!

One of the best ways to try different shoe brands you THINK you might like is to look on Ebay for very gently used nursing shoes. That way you can personally try out a certain brand without spending an arm or leg for them. I would definitely check out Danskos or Birkenstock that way. I also love the brand Think! (exclam is part of brand name). My feet actually feel sad when I take my nursing shoes off after a 12 hour shift. At home, I always wear Crocs.

Thanks everyone! I agree about taking care of your body. If my feet & body hurts/aches this bad this early on, i imagine it can only get worse over time with years of wear and tear. Thanks for all suggestions! Its great to hear everyone's opinions and ideas. Keep em coming! : )

Ted hose or jobst stockings! Try em!
