I owe a massive amount in loans, 33,000 . I'm just curious to how much others pay in student loans ? My goal is to pay it off in 5-10 years. Seems impossible right now though.
$53k. I signed up for the extended graduated payment plan (not income based) because I knew I'd be going back to school eventually. I told myself I could pay more toward principal if I wanted. But this way, my monthly obligation was low in case I had a month where I was short on funds.
Had I been truly thinking about payoff because I was working and intended to steadily work, I wouldn't have chosen this plan, because the interest over the life of the loan practically doubled the amount borrowed.
But, in my case, I was paying $335 ish for $53k in loans.
I think the 10 yr payoff was around $500-550.
I owed 38,000 when I graduated with my BSN. If I made the advised loan payment of 350 per month, it would have taken roughly 9.5 years to pay.I worked overtime for 2.5 years and dumped my tax refund one year on the loan to pay it off completely. Some months I paid 1500.
I think I want to go this route! I'm 40k in debt and starting my job in August... I don't have many expenses at present, so I may as well pay 'em off quickly!
Two ADN degrees and I owe 3500.00 after paying for the past 7 years or so, but I have them payed off next tax return. ( They are on deferment right now because I am in school again).
RN-BSN which I am enrolled in will cost me around 10,000 in the end, but I am paying as I go, so no more student loans!!!
Nothing. I go to a community college that is fairly inexpensive. It's in my divorce decree that my ex must pay for my schooling since he made me quit school when we got married. It's the law in my state. This year is the first I can qualify for grants. I've been approved for Pell which will cover most of it and my ex pays the rest. I'm getting my ASN. When I go for my BSN I will have to see. I would like to have no debt. I live debt free now.
My little sister has about $200k in loans. She has her doctorate in physical therapy and went to a very prestigious college. She is trying to get it paid in 15 years. She and her husband can't afford a house because she pays in the neighborhood of $1500 a month in loans. I could never do that. I'm proud of her for getting a great education, she just went about it wrong.
At the moment I owe nothing...
I borrowed $19,995 to attend an overpriced LVN program in late 2004 and had it paid off in 2007. I borrowed $12,700 to attend a private LPN-to-ASN transition program in 2009 and had the loan repaid in full in 2013. I paid my online RN-to-BSN tuition ($5,800) with cash over the course of a year.
I have enrolled in an online MSN program at a regional state university that charges $230 per graduate credit hour and will take out a small private loan to fund the tuition. I will borrow $3,000 at 3.99 percent interest and my monthly payments will be $50 for 84 months. However, I will likely pay the loan off in half the time.
I have around 70K of loans from 2 degrees. I calculated that if I paid the minimum I would pay off my loans in ~150 years. So I pay $1000 a month or more with the goal of paying them off in 10 years. Yikes! I lecture kids on not taking out loans they don't need now. Loan payments are a major bummer. On the other hand, all my years of living poor have taught me the skills I need to ... continue living poor. JK, I have enough to put away 10%+ for retirement, too. I don't want to live poor forever.
