Mt. SAC application for spring 2016

Published

Hi everyone !!! After 5 years I finally decided to pick up where I left off. Time to apply for nursing school :D

Application period is July 1st - September 1st. I'm coming in with 54 points pre-HESI. Just wanted to wish anyone else out there applying to Mt. SAC good luck with the HESI tomorrow ;)

I have yet to see a thread on this particular application period for Mt. SAC so I hope many more join this thread as we proceed with this tedious journey.

Thank you @barcode120x!

Yes thank you barcode120x! I was debating dropping down to 2 night shifts instead of 4 but that schedule seems very doable. Ideally I would want to stop working all together but financially that's not gonna happen and I work at hospital very closely with my director who says she'll make an exception for me and create a new grad program in labor and delivery for me so I would be an idiot to leave  especially since I hear it's tough out there for new grads with hospitals not having money to train. Do many students in your cohort work still ?

You mean during the program? Yes, I'd say maybe about a 1/3 of the class still worked wherever while many others had family and kids as well.

I find it borderline rude when people tell you that you can't work or be prepared to not work during nursing school. It's like, how very presumptuous of you that all of your students are 20 year olds living with mom and dad that have all the money in the world. Lol.

@barcode120x oh good I like hearing of others and their stories too. It gives me the extra push I need. Like if they can do it I can too ;)

@futuremurse93 yea tell me about it lol. That's not the case anymore. Awesome for those who can honestly focus on just school but for the 99.5% of the rest of us, life doesn't stop and neither do those bills :banghead:

Thanks for the infor barcode. And congrats to you ladies and gentleman that are already accepted, I have to wait till November to find out if I'm in haha, oh wells, my fault for being a bad student at Cal Poly. :p

Did you have your counseling appointment already?

Did you have your counseling appointment already?

Yes I did, I mean I am still in a good position, but there is always a possibility I could end up an alternate in the worse case scenario. Well, that's according to the counselor, I was hoping to just being accepted for sure, haha. Hopefully, Western, UCLA, or APU will still give me a chance if I can't get into Mtsac.

Being an alternate is actually still a really good position. It just means that if spots do open up (meaning if people drop/don't do their required paperwork, etc) by the time the next session of 1st semester students, you may be called to take it depending on your alternate number. In the case you don't get in this coming semester as an alternate, you are next in line and guaranteed a spot in the next semester.

You've chosen pretty pricey alternate schools for nursing :nailbiting:

You're guaranteed a spot in the following semester if you're an alternate? So that means all alternates from last semester get in this semester? Seems odd cuz don't they get 40-60 alternates?

Anyway I'm sure you'll be fine everykindablue. I'll most likely reject my spot if I get into my first choice and I'm sure many will not accept a seat.

Which one was your first choice again @nataliekorn?

@everykindofblue and yes you'll be fine many people apply to other schools too and I'm still on the fence so you may get in ;)

My first choice is LA County. I volunteer at USC Medical Center and I just want to continue there. I would be happy at Mtsac though since I have been going there for prereqs. That thread isn't active :/ I just want it to be official already. I feel like I'm jumping the gun ahhhh
