Mt. SAC application for spring 2016

Published

Hi everyone !!! After 5 years I finally decided to pick up where I left off. Time to apply for nursing school :D

Application period is July 1st - September 1st. I'm coming in with 54 points pre-HESI. Just wanted to wish anyone else out there applying to Mt. SAC good luck with the HESI tomorrow ;)

I have yet to see a thread on this particular application period for Mt. SAC so I hope many more join this thread as we proceed with this tedious journey.

Yes we totally should lol !

my notes say they take the top 60

ok thanks. I seen on stats of students enrolled in the program each semester that there is always 90. Maybe it meant something else

Because of distance RCC was actually my top choice but I would be over the moon with either school. I live in fontana. Mt SAC is a great school though my sister went there for RT school and loved it, I work with a nurse in labor and delivery that went there too but for nursing and had nothing but positive things to say. Truthfully I've been doing tons of thinking. Not sure whether I should still take the TEAS for RCC. I mentally checked out after the HESI lol. Plus I need to get the online practice teas that's about $88 and the teas itself is $85 so do I want to spend over $170 on a mere possibility ? My husband said its up to me so his lack of input does not help. what would you ladies do?

My parents and sister live in Fontana.

It's ultimately up to you, but you're already in at Mt. SAC, and you're still in the process of applying at RCC. By the time you find out if you're in at RCC, you could've already accepted Mt. SAC's offer and be preparing for the January orientation.

@mzmira congrats on being #38....that's great news! I hope I receive good news on Monday. Did you see what the lowest # of points the last student had?

Someone should do that! Haha

If you have any information on their point system and cut offs and you have a chance at getting in I would take the TEAS for RCC. It's a bit of a commute to MtSAC that you would probably have to make four days a week for class and clinicals. I would probably regret trying to save $188 now than saving money on gas for two years. By the way, the TEAS and HESI were similar in content. I would recommend a study guide that has practice tests. I bought two on Amazon for $10 each. I also bought the ATI practice tests and they were the same as the study guide/practice test I bought for way cheaper.

@xtina if there were 90 then I believe 60 are admitted and the rest are alternates. I don't recall how many alternates they have for every semester but 60 is how many students are accepted every semester.

@xtinatabarez, no, I did not. Each page had 15 candidates listed, I only got to see up to page 3. I'm hoping it will be like the previous semesters and that they accept people with 72 points, or have them as alternates. My friend has 72 points.

Also, the counselor I saw today was very sweet. She said she usually saves showing placement at the end of the session, but she showed me where I stood in the beginning. She was really excited for me and congratulated me on being in.

@mzmira I believe that is how many points I have. Depending on how they calculated my general ed gpa. I also applied at chaffey and Im supposed to find out this month if Ive been invited to take the TEAS.

So your definitely familiar with the fontucky drive.

so true and it's an awesome school in a great city with lots of places to eat :cheeky: nd have study groups so that's plus

Oh! I also asked about how they determine registration dates for the candidates, since clinical choice is first come first served. She said Mt. SAC students get priority, then it's by the number of units taken, then other students from other schools.

Good luck @xtinatabarez! Hope you get offered a spot at Mt. SAC.

Hope to meet everyone in January... or earlier if we end up doing a quick margarita celebration. ;)
