Hello

OMG Im having a Dr Phil moment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well kinda!

I am oddly worried that nursing maybe just my dream and not my reality...I have a case of the "BUTTER FINGERS".This is not a joke.I am really worried that I may fail or lose hope of pursing nursing because the fear of dropping important equipment or tools....lord knows..maybe even people.:nono:..lol...(had to laugh):lol2:..I think maybe im worried too much because when i think of nursing....i think you have to be sturdy and focused and intelligent....not clumsy...Am I just overreacting? Or is this a real concern?PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR INSIGHT!:trout:

Don't know what to say .... Henryswife (cute name) Personally I think no one is perfect, you can only do the best you can. I have my moments too but I am not hard on myself for dropping things. Believe in yourself!

I drop crap all the time. Am still considered a good nurse. Just remember the ten second rule shouldn't apply in anything related to nursing.

Specializes in Cardiac Telemetry, ED.

You'll get over it. There are a lot worse ways to mess up than by dropping something. Like giving the wrong medication to the wrong patient and causing them harm.

Specializes in med/surg, telemetry, IV therapy, mgmt.

I think you're overacting and possibly, in your own way, trying to sabotage your own efforts to go into the profession by looking for any excuse to get you out of it. Part of what you are doing is called procrastination and many of us suffer with it so some degree. The trick is to recognize when you are doing it and take steps to overcome it.

Hi there,

You're not overreacting....I think you're just a little nervous. Every single one of us have been nervous going into nursing school. We may not have worried about the same issues, but I doubt that any student or nurse could say that they walked into nursing school without 1-2 worries or fears. Don't let your fears stop you....I'm sure you will do just fine.

Specializes in EMS, ER, GI, PCU/Telemetry.

just relax and take a deep breath. if nursing is really your dream..make it your reality. i'm clumsy as can be, my mother actually used to call me grace in motion when i was little. i drop stuff and i trip over nothing quite often. and i'm doing just fine.

Specializes in Oncology, Cardiac.

henryswife, I'm a butterfingers myself and I worried, too. I constantly panicked and thought that I was doing something wrong.

Guess what?

I just finished my OB rotation and I didn't drop one baby the entire semester. lol!:lol2: (not that dropping babies is a laughing matter... but stil good that I didn't do that) Not only that, but my instructor gave me rave reviews. Yay!

So take a deep breath, have everything prepared for clinicals/work before you go in, spend 5 mins reviewing what you need to know, and go in with a clear head. And remember, you're not alone! You'll work through this!!

when i first read this title, i totally thought of pancakes. :p thats just me. I'm not nurse, at least not yet, but just confident that you can overcome your obstacles and you will succeed. woops guess i should really be paying attention in this microbiology class. it's just not fun.:nono: na uh

i just love all these lil smiley faces

I have a serious, chronic case of the Butterfingers. That, and I spill stuff allll the time (especially orange juice). It's not a problem at work. I just tend to take extras of stuff into rooms so I don't have to go back to the supply room when I drop and contaminate it.

Don't worry about it.

I drop stuff all the time. I swear there are days I can't hang onto anything. It happens more when I am in a hurry or nervous for whatever reason.

Don't worry about it. It happens to most of us.

i'm a natural born slob and clutz.

whether it's tube fdgs, iv's, personal care, the nsg assts KNOW to bring in a pile of towels.

it's just who i am.

no getting around it.

go for it.

and best of everything.
