i wonder if i were to become a en, can i still work in a nursing home doing pca (personal carer) and kitchen work as well as sometimes having shifts to hand out medications, treatments etc as an en. i have been told i can not be an rn and work as a pca and kitchen worker in a nursing home due to union rules. i enjoy a variety of work and being paid the ongoing pay rates of whatever role i am doing at the time. please tell me your thoughts and knowledge of the above. very much appreciated. puzzled mind :wink2:

Hello Someguygoblue32, I totally agree with the last post. I work in a nursing home and we us uridomes (condom cathetar). They are much healthier than permanent cathetars. I am sorry to hear you have troubles with helpers. Unfortunately no shows are becoming more common in the health industry. :typing

What a great read!!!! Love reading what was done in the old days. Found alot of Australian Women magazines under a very old house. We bought the old house and surrounding land for property development. Anyway my hubby goes throw them away! I kept them all many, many large bags worth where there, alot of them were close to a hundred years old. What a gold mine it was to me. People really did have a hard life and appreciate things we take for granted like dishwashers, washing machines and even the humble pair of shoes!!! Thank you for the read. I work as a pca on evening shifts for a Nursing Home. I want a second job working anytime from 8am to 3pm during the day (any day) with aged people (visiting their homes,...) I don't know what ozcare, blue care or any other major organisation can offer in rostered shifts. Can anybody help me? I would have gone for Nursing Home day shifts but the places I know of start at 6am and 6.30am, too early for me, due to evening shifts. I would really appreciate it if anyone can help. Hi everyone, Just got home from my evening shift from the Nursing Home. A Agency PCA (Personal Care Assistant - does duties such as toileting, showering, changing resident's clothes etc...) will be on tonight instead of one of the PCA's from the Nursing Home. I am finding that more and more agency nurses are filling in for the RN's and PCA's here at the Nursing Home. Agency PCA's and RN's get way more than employees from the Nursing Home. Do you guys have more and more agency nurses over the years in your facilities? Big difference in Pay? Appreciate the feedback. Love to see America one day with my husband but have to wait till the youngest get's a driver's licence so he can be independent and look after himself which is another 7 years!......Summer here. I watch Good Morning religiously. Been enjoying Hannah Montana tv shows with my daughter,we are at the Dolly Parton talks to Hannah show. Off track here. Hey everyone, I want to know what type of shoes and insoles do you guys think serve your feet with arch support, comfort (soft foot pad, flex in shoe bed....) durability, closed in shoe of course and looks good. I personally like homy ped and diana ferari which I was lucky to get on sale. I sometimes have lambs wool insoles but only last for about 6 months, they tend to wear down and break up inside the shoe! Please tell me your thoughts. What do you wear, are they comfortable?..... I work in a Nursing Home. One of the things I love is walking fast from one room to the next. Always love fast walking! I learn at least one new thing on each shift. There are many positive things to say about working there and also challenges. Thanks for the great read dmarie. :Snowman1::Santa3:

I will love to read your posts on the creative ideas on the way you make coffee based drinks and what are your favourite bought ones and where they are from. I love to make a skim milk coffee with almond essence. I put 3 heaped tablespoons of skim milk powder in food processor bowl with a cup of cold water and about 4 ice cubes, 1 tsp of coffee powder and 4 drops of almond essence. Sometimes I have vanilla essence instead of almond - depending on my mood. And Wizz..... YUM Love McDonalds Cappaccino with a shot of banana toffee, good stuff! I am always given lollies and bicky's etc... from residents and if I say no thank you they may get offended!! Also night shift doesn't help, I like to eat after work at night, it unfortunatlely helps me to destress!

Hi Ho, If I was in your predicament I would check out cheap stores, tinsel I can get for 2 dollars a strand, cheap decorations for the tree. Came across 3 glass angels for 2.99 altogether sooo beautiful to hang on the tree. See if I can scrounge stuff off friends, family etc... Love garage sales, yes you can buy christmas stuff from some of them just before Chrissy, I have in the past. Tell you what is really effective in decorating a hall, this was done at the nursing home I work in. Use double sided tape to stick the top of balloons to the ceiling and have a piece of shiny ribbon hang from the base, have many, many balloons close together down the hallway it feels like a christmas wonderland, sooo beautiful!!! Have had nothing but the WOW factor from people! We used pearly white balloons and shiny blue ribbon (one strand) hanging of each individual balloon. I strongly recommend this and its cheap too! Trust me you will want to use a balloon pump not blow manually!! Candy cane is great to use on the tree if you have room in the hallway to put a tree up, maybe encourage workers to buy a gift say 10 dollars and put under the tree and do a swap of gifts just before christmas with the ones who paid for a gift. All our trees and deco's are up, so pretty! We are having a competion with the 3 areas there scu, hostel and nursing home for the best christmas display out of the above areas. Hi, I enjoy nursing. It is fulfilling to help the residents in their daily activities. I don't work in a hospital but I am working in a nursing home and love it there. Its a great feeling to share in their lives and make it a more comfortable and friendly environment in their last days. They were all once young with fulfilling lives. Sorry for going on. Nursing is enriching, I don't need the money but I love the nurturing side and chatting to other workers. Love the replys so far!!!:flowersfo
