  1. our ltc facility houses 6 pedi patients. the one night stay you are referring to is ryder 28 program. there is so much money tied up in the state of texas to help special needs children the loophole is they are uspposed to stay for 30 days. the MD writes an order that they cant stay but 24 hours due to weakened immune systems etc. at census time **usually midnight** the state sees "oh crud there is another child for permanent placement in a nursing home we need to get them out asap" we d/c them home and the money is freed up to help the child out. to my knowledge there were only 2 facilites in texas doing it. one in groves and one near dallas. im glad to see more are jumping on board with the program. i have seen them as young as 3 months in a nursing home. hope this helps
  2. i am mailing mine out tomorrow.... i also put the city and state where im from in case you want to like put on a map where all you got cards from.... **im a dork like that** and think its neat to see wehre all ive gotten one from.... also a quick bit about wehre im from is where hurricane ike hit this year
  3. okay guys i dont want to go into much detail but i have a med aide on my hall who is constantly drugged up to the point of not even being able to walk or talk. the other day a whole care of 60 norco 10's went missing on her shift and everything points to her even though its under investigation. this isnt the only thing... anyways seeing as she works under my license i dont want her passing any of my meds because she makes to many errors.... had to write her up for 2 alone today. how do i go about reporting her since she isnt a nurse i dont think they offer a TPAPN program for her.... (in in texas) but how do i got about reporting her to someone. i have reported it to admin. but they seem to not even care
  4. this didnt happen to me but a coworker of mine the other night..... she drew up some phenergan with a filtered needle then went to give it to the resident... she came back talking about how cheap out needles were and it was so dull it wouldnt go in her skin so she would have to get a new needele and try it again... when she showed it to me i had to point out to her she never changed the needle and was still using the filtered one.. oops
  5. hey **hugs** it happens to all of us. my 1st med error was in nursing school too.... i was doing clinicals in a LTC facility and gave insulin to teh wrong person....... i didn have to sign all teh paper work and everything but i didnt get kicked out by any means..... the pt was fine and we just monitored her for a while checking her BS Q15min (she was actually excited because she said she hadnt gotten that kind of attention in a long time)
  6. i just started at a new LTC facility that takes children..... (we have 4 CP kids that im already in love with) but one had a G-tube but it wasnt long like normal it was right against the skin..... the nurse i was orientating with said sometimes you have to release teh gas off her stomach because of a surgery she has to where she cant throw up.... they like i think folder her esophagus into ridges...... can anyone tell me what this surgery is and about it... ive only been a nurse 7 mths and never heard of it or seen it
  7. thanks for all the help..... i am a new LVN in charcge of about 48 people a day on average..... our window just opened in march and state walked into a neighboring facility 2 nights ago on 10-6 shift. anything else you all can add to this. even when we just ahve 1 or 2 state people come in like DADS i freak out and almost cry i cant help it lol...... i get so nervous and have never been through this before and am so nervous

  9. :yeahthat:
  10. i work in a ltc center. the ONLY RN we have is the DON.... the other day i was short staffed on a hall and my DON came in as an aide..... **btw our management is quick to tell us what needs to be done then do it themselves..... our administrator the other day had the nerve to walk into a patients room... saw they weren't eating.... walk around the whole facility looking for the nurse **walked PAST dietary** to tell the nurse the patient needed the alternate meal** but back to the original story my DON came in and worked my hall as an aide... she was also one of my nursing school teachers... i have only been a nurse for 5 months .... i was HER boss and it was so weird she wouldnt even sign my no lunch slip that has to be approved by your dept head. but i got to sign hers lol
  11. okay here's my question..... im 23 and never been to the gyno..... **ya i know i really should see one** but i have been having problems and finally decided i will grin and bear it and go.... my question is... what should i expect... what will they do? does anyone have any websites that give good info? please help im so nervous:uhoh21:

  14. we have a new lady where i work in LTC.... veryyyyyy confused and combative to say the least..... first off she thinks we kidnapped ehr and tried to call the police all day long.... then the otehr day in the dining room she didnt finish her meal completely and asked for a to go box.... when i told her we dont have to go boxes she got very upset and looked like she wanted to cry lol
