I must be in a good mood. Sent 3 home today, kids who I haven't seen all year and not feeling great, but no definitive symptoms to say yes. Golden ticket day here.

I guess I'm just mean. In the last 12 days of school (but I'm not counting, right?) I need to see some serious proof before I let a kiddo go home. Mainly because FF or not, everyone gets end-of-school-itis in June. Especially when it is gets to be 80+ in my no-AC school.

I am so amazed at how heat intolerant these kids are. I am constantly getting heat related complaints. I tell them to stay outside more, as most families turn their AC on in May and turn it off at the end of September. No wonder kids gain an average of 5 pounds over summer.

Awfully close to the end of the year. Sure it wasn't a malingering kind of anaphylaxis?
Nah, his very fat tongue proved otherwise!!!

I usually give "first time flyers" more latitude and/or benefit of the doubt.
i do the same -if it's May and i haven't seen you all year - you get by on "i puked in the bathroom" with less inquiry.

This. We had NO AC back in the day. Please kids, suck it up.
I had a mother come in because her 4th grader called her to c/o lack of A/C. Mom came in to complain as it was 90 degrees that day, and said it was inhuman to have kids learn in that environment. I then let her know that I had 2 children of my own in that class and hers were the only ones complaining. I grew up with central air but my mom only put it on before dinner because my father liked it, otherwise, it was great incentive to get outside as it was generally cooler.

My real question is who in that school let a 4th grader call their parent to c/o lack of AC?

I live in the mountains of far northern California - all our schools are air-conditioned! I'm kind of amazed there are school w/o AC.
I love the heat and hate being cold but I understand that heat can make you feel sleepy. I do think it isn't conducive to learning. (Ducking so I don't get hit with someone's stethoscope!)
Oh . . .why are you guys still in school? Spidey's been out since last Friday.

We still have older, pre-AC schools, slowly converting. A little more fiscally conservative here. I went to an ES that used to be the "consolidated" HS, code for "colored" and we didn't have AC (back in the '70's), they now have AC. Our school has AC, it just wasn't working in that one portable for a few days, they were waiting on a part.
Seriously??? she no doubt has an iPhone 6 or 8 or 10 or something, LOL!!!
