Alright, y'all, I know you have some doozies. Let's have a laugh about the most creative/inventive/hilarious names you've been called by patients and/or visitors. And...go!

My contributions:

Little Miss Priss
Teletubby (I never did find out *which* Teletubby)
Fat A* B* - this one gets an honorable mention not for creativity (it isn't at all) but for the hilarious look on the patient's face when I said, "That's right, I am, and this fat a* b* said to stop yelling in the hall and go back to your room." He stared at me like I had grown another head...and then went back to his room, muttering about my sanity. After that, I graduated from "fat a* b*" to "crazy b*." I took it as a perverse compliment.

I've been the "White Devil" (from the mouth of a homeless schizophrenic man). When I was his nurse, I would do my best to care for him, but he often wouldn't let me near him, so I would work with my coworkers to do various things (change his linens - which became filthy since he refused most cares) while they occupied him otherwise.  Another woman that I worked with was called a "nappy-haired little girl" and was threatened with "the comb". (to my adult coworker mother of children who had some awesome natural hair, but she did have a thin frame).

I had a patient ask what RN stood for. My preceptor kindly told them registered nurse. The patient looked them dead in the eye and said no it's for Rude Nurse.

It's my go to now.

Honestly, I pretty much ignore what ever is said. I was surprised when I heard a 3 year old call me a Puta (SP maybe wrong.)Once I found out what that was I told the parents they were bad parents for teaching their child that and laughing at it.

Now that's a new one.  As a new nurse who has been a medic for 24 years there have been a few nurses that when they walk in the room the rivers part and the sun shines directly on them and no one else.

Worst thing I ever said to a nurse was a trauma patient I brought into the ER.  The Resident walks in and asks me for report.   So I give it to him (EMS arrival reports , at least mine, can get very specific.  30 seconds after the report is finished the Attending walks in and asks me for report.  Ugghhhhhh OK, so I go through my whole spiel again.

3 minutes later a nurse walks in and takes over the documentation station.

She then starts with me "I NEED REPORT" in a very demanding and demeaning tone.  I looked any her and then looked at the two doctors I already gave report to.  I don't know where it came from but I said " Look, Peppermint Patty, Im not saying it again, you want report? Talk to one of the two that I already had to give it to , twice!!"  and I walked out of the trauma room.

So when 'Peppermint Patty' walks out of the room she shoots daggers out of her eyes at me.

I didn't engage her whatsoever. I just calmly walked over to the charge nurse with a pad and paper and stated "Can I please have her last name, and I also need the name of the nursing supervisor who is on right now and their Phone number.".

Basically pleading with me not to report her, which I probably wouldn't have gone through with, saying she is having a bad day and she is a good nurse.   Which I have no doubt, and we are all entitled to a bad day here and there.   But I think the message I was trying to send got through to her as she was nice as pie to me ever since.  I was prepared to file a complaint though if I needed to.   I don't work for the hospital and safari as I'm concerned I don't answer to you, whatsoever.

What lies in my future now as an RN is still to be written, as I just got hired in the ER at a local hospital.   But I will remember where I came from . I will not talk down to anyone who may have a Lower certification or license than me.

Sorry if I got off topic, just some ramblings.

You're about to find out what it's like when nobody cares if you know what's going on but you're still responsible for things! Maybe the nurse is just generally a decent person and that's why you haven't had any other problems. I doubt a good ED nurse was intimidated by someone asking someone else for her name. I wouldn't be anyway.

Now would be a good time to realize that you don't have to react to anyone else's bad day or wrong tone of voice. I sincerely mean that. Ignoring most things that other people react to is a major thing that will help preserve your sanity.

Good luck in the ED. ?

Insulting her in front of the patient and everyone else is no better than her snapping at you. Your behavior was equally reprehensible. In all of your posts here you have adopted an aggressive, confrontative tone. This will not serve you well with your peers and is not coming across well here.

I think that is a rather unfair assessment of my behavior across the spectrum of allnurses.

I guess it was one of those ‘ya had to be there’. As most of my posts have been under the excelsior college tab I would like to know , specifically, what brought you to the conclusion that ALL of my posts are aggressive and confrontational?

You insulted her in public, that much was clear. Then you went to her supervisor to report her and make her feel threatened which was also pretty clear. Her behavior was rude, your behavior was bordering on bullying (and I don't say that very often) but you have managed to cow her into being "nice as pie" so good for you.

I apologize for broad-brushing your posts. Let me clarify, your posts, except those in the Excelsior section, have been aggressive and confrontative. We get it, some people treated you poorly but it wasn't us. What you did to that nurse was uncalled for. You could have had a private discussion with her and hashed it out and the two of you would have been better for it. Instead you seem to have adopted an agenda of teaching nurses, in general and here on the forum, a lesson. The optics are not good.

It's an honor to be sharing with such esteemed colleagues. My story: I entered the patient's room in our Tallahassee Memorial E.R. and found him sitting up on the edge of the bed looking pretty healthy. He was maybe thirty years old and offered an immediate grin as he said, I think before he processed it, "Man, you're almost as ugly as I am!", to which I responded, before I processed it, "Almost!". We both burst out laughing. I think he was right, though.

You all be safe.

Well, this is a bit of a thread drift, but.....

Your post does portray you as unprofessional with a chip on your shoulder.  I have no idea if you are, but that is how you present yourself.

FWIW, as an EMT, I have logged plenty of truck time and given plenty of reports.  And, I have an excellent relationship with all of EMS that comes to my place.  And, I think annual ride time should be mandatory for nurses.  And, I often remind my peers of the challenges of working while getting bounced around in a truck, as well as the difference in scope of practice/protocols.

My free feedback may be worth exactly what you paid for it, but, there it is.

Now- back to the issue at hand.  Kind of.

Nothing comes to mind immediately of things I have been called, but, on occasion, I do call a patient a cab.  Usually a drunk.

"Call me a cab!"
"Fine.  You're a cab.  Now go back to your room."
