Most difficult nursing pre req?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi guys,

I just started my Fall semester today. I'm taking Microbiology, English 100 and Intermediate Algebra. My question is: of the science classes, what was the most difficult nursing pre req? At my school we just need Fundamentals of Bio, Micro, Anatomy and Physiology. In the syllabus it says to be prepared to dedicate about 20 hours a week outside of class time for Micro (homework/studying). From your experiences, does that sound about right?

Thanks guys!

Micro was.an easy a at my school. I returned the book in the plastic still! I went to class and thought the material was easy and had no problem. Anatomy and phys 2 was my beast. It took sooo much time and the cumulative final was, "how is homeostasis maintained?" Like every way your body maintains homeostasis. :( blegh

I had the toughest time in Microbiology, but really I don't think the material was difficult, it was more a case of a really tough instructor.

I am taking Micro this Fall so I don't know what to expect from it, but for me so far A&P 1 was hardest for me. A&P 2 was a piece of cake for me.

Composition, by far the most challenging.

I really enjoyed microbiology. The instructor was a good teacher, so that probably helped out a lot. I also loved going to lab in that class! Really neat. My favorite part was talking about the disease process in the human body from various organisms and how they affected things. I'd say it's a close first to A & P II, which I also enjoyed a lot.

A&P 1 was the hardest for me (lots of memorization of muscles, tissues, and bones :banghead:). A&P 2 was hard as well and I had a really tough instructor, but the fact that we were studying body systems and learning about physiology actually caught my attention and I ended up doing really well in the class.

Micro was really easy and interesting for me. The class is not easy but it depends a lot in your instructor. My instructor was awesome and she made all of us love the material and we had lots of fun in lab.

This past spring semester I had Micro, A&P 220 and Intermediate Algebra. It was by far the most difficult semester I have EVER had. All of my classes ended up being online. The Micro instructor was NOT helpful, very strict, recorded lectures that were useless as all he did was read through the PowerPoint slides with NO additional information/explanations provided. After about the 4th week I gave up on trying to listen to his lectures and found that just reading the book was by far better. We had no lab (crazy, I know!...soon to change I hear!), so instead we had a 4-6 page case study to do every other week. Once a week we had a discussion question we had to participate in, read and quiz (50 questions per quiz!!) on 2 chapters a week; every other week we had a 100 question exam on the previous 4 chapters. I spent minimum of 30 hours a week on just that Micro class. Thankfully, my A&P instructor was awesome and that class was a breeze compared to Micro. Got behind in the Algebra because I spent so much time on Micro and A&P, but did manage to pull out a B in Micro and an A by the skin of my teeth in A&P. Luckily, Int. Algebra was a Pass/Fail course, since it wasn't College Algebra. I pretty much had NO life that semester. I literally studied 12-16 hours most days...on weekends 8-10 hours. The work that our Micro instructor required was insane, but I did enjoy all that I learned. Just wish I had had a decent instructor like some of you had.

Thankfully, I'm back in the classroom for this fall semester. College Algebra and Chemistry. I have excellent instructors for both of those classes and am very excited for this semester for that fact alone. Good luck to everyone this semester!

I've heard Micro is the best/easiest/most interesting. I'm taking it this fall, so my two cents will have to come later.

Other than my Stats class (what can I say, I'm not a numbers girl), I'd say A & P was the hardest (II, in particular, although I'm sure different schools mix up which systems you learn in each). Lots of little details, and lots of repetition and talking to myself were needed to get through it. But I didn't find it as torturous as the math classes; at least A & P seemed relevant.

Taking Micro and Public Speaking this Fall to begin the program in the Spring.

So far the classes I've taken seemed easy, but did require putting in the time. The one that jumps out as "hard" would be Pharmacology. That was a LOT of information in a condensed amount of time!

For me micro was pretty tough! But I had a teacher that did her best to help us succeed! What a trip!! I did fantastic in the lab portion and NOT SO fantastic in the lecture!! I wanted to knock my brains out! I ended up with an A in lab and B in lecture.

For me, patho was particularly hellish . But I had a bad instructor who was very unfocused, a&p 2 and micro are tied for 2nd worst pre req
