  1. Thank you. I am feeling so much pressure from the time crunch. So much reading and studying and assignments. I think I need to address my time management and delegating skills. I try to do it all. We are just starting week 3 and I already feel like a zombie. I am terrified of failing out and worry I can't dedicate enough time to focused study and I know skimming won't cut it in nursing school. First big exam is in th am. I'm a bundle of nerves. I just feel sooooo stressed out. Thanks for the suggestions. I will def try them.
  2. I am feeling very overwhelmed at the moment . Not sure how to proceed. Huge workload and family conflict have me feeling blue. Any advice for a new nursing student on striking a good balance?
  3. Wish we michiganders communicated more.
  4. Follow your heart. Don't take it personal. Irked is one thing, but if you let her get under your skin, she wins. You can do it. You have enough experience to know if its what you want to do. She was probably being a catty B-word because she is jealous. Points systems bring out the worst in people from my experiences. Its kinda cut throat. Put your mind to it and you will do fine. I got accepted to my program with less than a 4.0 . Grades do not make a good nurse. Book smart and being able to apply a skill or knowledge is what will get you a job in the end when you are licensed. You will learn therefore people who genuinely care and pretenders. Distance yourself from her, she is not worth the head ache. Good luck to you, I am sure you will do fine.
  5. I already got accepted with 92.52 points
  6. I am getting ready to start at ct campus. Although its not flint, I'd love some advice
  7. With the writing, u can save a bit of time by focusing on the specifics asked. The a&p portion, I don't know what to offer. Study electrolytes, heart, Neuro, and metabolism. Those were my hard part. I did the worst in the science with a 65% but did so well in the other areas I ended up with an 86% over all. Good luck, and sorry you missed this round. Taking it a second time may be better cause you know what to expect. Think back to the prior test, I am sure it will be similar.
  8. I am sure I will be doing study groups. I am fortunate that all my kids will be in class from 8-4 m-f . That will actually help me I am sure. Lecture is on Mondays from 8a-5p. Clinical is on Fridays from 7a-3p. We will have lab one of the other three days. We don't start until the 24th of September. One thing we did do was create a Facebook group for our particular class. We are cohorts from what I understand and our small group of 40 students will begin all the same classes and we will all be on class together until we complete the program. I find that wonderful. We will all be on the same page, all be with the same instructor, all have the same expectation placed on us, and more than that we will be able to relate. The fb page is private and closed. A class member can join only by being added by someone who is already in the group. This way we can post times and dates for study groups. Whether it is a reading group, nclex prep group, lab study group, etc. I think it will be helpful too to be able to network among ourselves, remind ourselves of deadlines, and in general be supportive group for one another. I do find, however, that smaller groups work more effectively. They tend to be more focused. Good luck in your study plan endeavors!
  9. I start Sept 24 and am. N E R V O U S ... to say the least. I graduate in March 2014 if I've done my math right. Lol. Its all good.
  10. Most ADN PROGRAMS are either long wait lists or competitive. They all require pre reqs that vary from school to school. You usually have to do pre reqs prior to applying to the nursing program. All pre reqs are basic. English math speech computers pathophysiology nutrition anatomy physiology etc. The nursing programs include classes and clinical and are very time consuming. My first term alone has 20 contact hrs a week not including study time, homework assignments, and travel time. Working would be difficult Experience in the hospital or field is not necessary, but you should ask to shadow a nurse and see if its really what you want to do. The pay may look good now, but for the amount of work hours, responsibility and cost of an ADN program it is not much. If you are a caregiver, like helping others then it may be a good choice. If you're doing it for money, look at other opportunities. Its hard to get a job as a new grad, and emotionally hard, mentally hard work. You lose patients, endure abusive patients, and have to help people who don't want your help. Go to your college and see if they offer a seminar as most do. Or talk to some of the nurses on here and ask what its really like. Good luck in your choice.
  11. I start the Clinton township RN program September 24th . It took a lot to get accepted, but I am sure it will be worth it! I was told we would get a list of books on the 13th at orientation which was when we would be registered for our classes and assigned our clinical times etc. You can pick up books as soon as Sept 4th from the book store as long as you know your classes. Good luck and congrats!!!
  12. Argh sent too soon. Get an NCLEX study guide. That should help with understanding format and rationale. Maybe download a nclex flashcard app if you have a smart phone. Mine offers rationale. And try changing the way you study. Understand more memorize less type stuff. Try working with a study group, sometimes someone else's view can help clarify your own. Ask your instructor to explain where and how you went wrong. But don't lose confidence in yourself. You can do this!
  13. Keep your chin up. Get an NCLEX
  14. Wow, appalling. I think learning to be a nurse should be from the ground up so to speak. No person ever won a spelling bee without first learning the alphabet. What happens if your CNA calls in sick, or the patients on your floor catch the flu and make a larger mess than normal. What if your laboring patient poops a bit from contractions etc. There are things that just can't wait for a CNA to be there for. It is scary that some people think that way. Nursing is caring for a person, in its essence. Kinda like marriage . For better or for worse, in vomit and in poop, til your good health does us part, or death, grander, etc. Making someone wait, because a diaper change isn't in your job description is cruel and anyone who does that should be tossed out of the job. JMO
  15. You guys, are scaring me, lol. My first day of nursing school is not until Sept 24tg
