Crisis Mode!
Thank you. I am feeling so much pressure from the time crunch. So much reading and studying and assignments. I think I need to address my time management and delegating skills. I try to do it all. We are just starting week 3 and I already feel like a zombie. I am terrified of failing out and worry I can't dedicate enough time to focused study and I know skimming won't cut it in nursing school. First big exam is in th am. I'm a bundle of nerves. I just feel sooooo stressed out. Thanks for the suggestions. I will def try them.

Discouragement from others - Do I have what it takes?
Follow your heart. Don't take it personal. Irked is one thing, but if you let her get under your skin, she wins. You can do it. You have enough experience to know if its what you want to do. She was probably being a catty B-word because she is jealous. Points systems bring out the worst in people from my experiences. Its kinda cut throat. Put your mind to it and you will do fine. I got accepted to my program with less than a 4.0 . Grades do not make a good nurse. Book smart and being able to apply a skill or knowledge is what will get you a job in the end when you are licensed. You will learn therefore people who genuinely care and pretenders. Distance yourself from her, she is not worth the head ache. Good luck to you, I am sure you will do fine.

Anybody awaiting Baker College acceptance letters?
With the writing, u can save a bit of time by focusing on the specifics asked. The a&p portion, I don't know what to offer. Study electrolytes, heart, Neuro, and metabolism. Those were my hard part. I did the worst in the science with a 65% but did so well in the other areas I ended up with an 86% over all. Good luck, and sorry you missed this round. Taking it a second time may be better cause you know what to expect. Think back to the prior test, I am sure it will be similar.

Study Groups
I am sure I will be doing study groups. I am fortunate that all my kids will be in class from 8-4 m-f . That will actually help me I am sure. Lecture is on Mondays from 8a-5p. Clinical is on Fridays from 7a-3p. We will have lab one of the other three days. We don't start until the 24th of September. One thing we did do was create a Facebook group for our particular class. We are cohorts from what I understand and our small group of 40 students will begin all the same classes and we will all be on class together until we complete the program. I find that wonderful. We will all be on the same page, all be with the same instructor, all have the same expectation placed on us, and more than that we will be able to relate. The fb page is private and closed. A class member can join only by being added by someone who is already in the group. This way we can post times and dates for study groups. Whether it is a reading group, nclex prep group, lab study group, etc. I think it will be helpful too to be able to network among ourselves, remind ourselves of deadlines, and in general be supportive group for one another. I do find, however, that smaller groups work more effectively. They tend to be more focused. Good luck in your study plan endeavors!

How does one prepare to enter an ADN program?
Most ADN PROGRAMS are either long wait lists or competitive. They all require pre reqs that vary from school to school. You usually have to do pre reqs prior to applying to the nursing program. All pre reqs are basic. English math speech computers pathophysiology nutrition anatomy physiology etc. The nursing programs include classes and clinical and are very time consuming. My first term alone has 20 contact hrs a week not including study time, homework assignments, and travel time. Working would be difficult Experience in the hospital or field is not necessary, but you should ask to shadow a nurse and see if its really what you want to do. The pay may look good now, but for the amount of work hours, responsibility and cost of an ADN program it is not much. If you are a caregiver, like helping others then it may be a good choice. If you're doing it for money, look at other opportunities. Its hard to get a job as a new grad, and emotionally hard, mentally hard work. You lose patients, endure abusive patients, and have to help people who don't want your help. Go to your college and see if they offer a seminar as most do. Or talk to some of the nurses on here and ask what its really like. Good luck in your choice.

LPN Baker Auburn Hills 2012
I start the Clinton township RN program September 24th . It took a lot to get accepted, but I am sure it will be worth it! I was told we would get a list of books on the 13th at orientation which was when we would be registered for our classes and assigned our clinical times etc. You can pick up books as soon as Sept 4th from the book store as long as you know your classes. Good luck and congrats!!!

I need some advice, 72 On first Exam :(
Argh sent too soon. Get an NCLEX study guide. That should help with understanding format and rationale. Maybe download a nclex flashcard app if you have a smart phone. Mine offers rationale. And try changing the way you study. Understand more memorize less type stuff. Try working with a study group, sometimes someone else's view can help clarify your own. Ask your instructor to explain where and how you went wrong. But don't lose confidence in yourself. You can do this!

Not willing to do the dirty work?
Wow, appalling. I think learning to be a nurse should be from the ground up so to speak. No person ever won a spelling bee without first learning the alphabet. What happens if your CNA calls in sick, or the patients on your floor catch the flu and make a larger mess than normal. What if your laboring patient poops a bit from contractions etc. There are things that just can't wait for a CNA to be there for. It is scary that some people think that way. Nursing is caring for a person, in its essence. Kinda like marriage . For better or for worse, in vomit and in poop, til your good health does us part, or death, grander, etc. Making someone wait, because a diaper change isn't in your job description is cruel and anyone who does that should be tossed out of the job. What is your opinion of lucid dreaming?
As far as I know hypnagogic episodes serfs form of hallucination, typically characterized in patients who have narcolepsy and are basically described as vivid dreams which blend with reality upon going to sleep or waking up and the person experiencing them can not tell the difference between the dream state, and reality. I was told at one time they thought I be narcolepsy, because I was experiencing REM rebound. My cause ultimately turned out to be night time hypoxia from uncontrolled nocturnal asthma which led to sleep deprivation, causing me to go into REM sleep unusually fast. Extremely lucid dreams are worth looking into if they become frequent or bothersome. There could be a serious underlying illness that needs to be addresses. Also, hypnagogic hallucinations and REM sleep disorders are often mistaken for one another. When a person dreams they are usually in a state of near or complete paralysis. This is the bodys way of protecting itself from acting out what happens.during dreams. When that paralysis fails, thenvyou end up with situations where people flail, hit, talk, scream, punch, kick, and even walk in their sleep with no recognition or memory of the event. Again, there is often an underlying medical conditions that needs to be addressed if this happens more than once a week. Though the occasional lucid dream in itself is usually not cause for concern. Especially if the patient or person is taking certain medications. JMHO

Need Baker College Kaplan Test Prep Tips
I scored an 86% on the Kaplan and had an overall GPA of 3.82 science GPA was 3.9 my overall points were 92.52 out of 100. I ranked at 15 out of 40. For the Kaplan, know your heart, electrolytes, and neurological systems. A lot of it is common sense. The math is basic. Fractions, decimals, conversions, maybe basic off-algebra. Reading and writing are almost identical to Kaplan prep book. Prep book was not helpful in science you either know it or you don't. You get your score right away. If you get 90 or more points you are in an excellent.position.

Baker College of Nursing
I was accepted to the ADN Program my first try. I worked hard for my grades and studied for my entrance exam. You can also look at other schools websites. Oakland university is one that accepts a lol of baker credits, from what I understand there, as long as you graduate from a BON Approved school, and have an active license you can do just about any ADN TO BSN program. Calling your potential school of interest ans speaking to an academic advisor would be the most reliable source of information. People get nasty when competing for a position in a competitive entry program. There is a lot of politics and false information flying from other students, disgruntled and other wise. I kept to myself for that reason. It was rather distasteful, but I hear it is like that at most schools. There are some hospitals that prefer nlnac accreditation, but even some bigger schools don't have that. Check with your local hospitals or where you want to work too and.see what their hiring requirements are. Look into it before making your final decision. For me, I chose this route, because the HR department I talked to at various hospitals all expressed that they have and will continue yo hide baker grads. Baker also has a high NCLEX pass rate which factored into my decision. Good luck to you.

Baker College of Nursing
From what I understand doing a RN to BSN program only requries an active license Asian RN At any school. Transfer credits, not sure. I just got accepted to bakers rn program. I know owosso is nlnac accredited, attest I think so, and Clinton township has applied for ccne accreditation. They should find out in fall. I so know few recent grads of bakers ADN program who are employed as nurses, so I doubt. That will be a problem.

Most difficult nursing pre req?
For me, patho was particularly hellish . But I had a bad instructor who was very unfocused, a&p 2 and micro are tied for 2nd worst pre req

Kaplan Exam
O also found the Kaplan prep study guide to ne useless on the science portion of the test. It was too vague, but for the rest of it, it was fairly accurate.

Kaplan Exam
I took my Kaplan test in may, as was already said, it was in 4 parts. There are total 90 questions. If you're good in English then you will do good on that part. The math was very basic. Know your fractions, ratios percentages etc. As far as the science goes, it is pretty random, the out of 21 questions, 4 of mine were on the central nervous system, there was some basic nutrition type questions. I would say know the least blood flows through the heart. That has been on the last 4 tests at our school other than that, when it comes to the science portion, if you know it you know it, I'd now, try eliminating the obvious wrong answers and improve your chances with an educated guess. Do not leave a question blank, as you can not go back later to fill it in. It is all computerised and there is a basic calculator on screen that you can use. I personally scored 86% on mine. In our group of 151 testers the average score was 69% I would think anything over a 75% is good, bit the higher the better. If your GPA is good then you should do well with a 75 or higher. Obviously the higher the better on both Kaplan and GPA. Good luck and let us know how you did. BTW, I go to baker.
