Hi,
I am attending a diploma nursing school in Pittsburgh. We are just taking our pre-nursing classes (microbiology, nutrition). We have only had 1 quiz and took our first exam yesterday. We started out with 51 students. We are now down to 41. Is this normal for so many to drop out before it even starts? :uhoh21:
This just concerns me because I could not imagine giving up that quick. Maybe I am just to stubborn to quit.
What gets me is how many more people there are on the day of an exam. They don't bother coming to lecture and just show up for the exams. :angryfire Gee, think they're the ones getting A's? I hope not.
LOL know that feeling, at my school on the first day of classes there are tons of people you can barely find a seat...as the weeks progress you see less and less people until barely half the class is there...then on exam day, packed again!!! i always go...its the same ppl though who are troopers and are there no matter what...it really ticks me off when those who dont show complain that the test was too hard or the teacher is mean or whatever...IMO if you dont go to class then you have no right to complain!
Man, I rarely see a whole lot of people dropping out of pre-req classes. Usually when they do it's because the instructor is horrible, rude, sexist, inept, or whatever. :chuckle
A&P, only 3 or 4 dropped out of 25. Micro, maybe 1. English, I don't remember, but no more than 2. Psych, no one.

so far weve lost 2 in micro that I know of...and in AP, 2 or 3 but its a large class so its hard to tell...i start my acc. nursing program next week so im sure i will see quite a few drop from that!
I find it amusing at the staggering amount of students that have dropped so far. In Chem, we started out at 50+, now we're down to 40. In A&P II, we started out with 40, now down to 30. I understand some people may have a situation where they have to drop, but the majority of people that I talk to (that dropped) say it's too hard, too much studying, etc.
i DIDN'T LOSE PEOPLE IN MY DIPLOMA PROGRAM TO PRE REQS. WHEN THE ACTUAL NURSING PART OF THE PROGRAM STARTED WE BEGAN MED CALCULATION TEST. iF YOU SCORED BELOW A 90 YOU COULD TAKE THE TEST ONE MORE TIME. iF YOU SCORED BELOW A 90 YOU WERE OUT OF THE PROGRAM. A LOT OF PEOPLE COULD NOT DO THE MATH.

We probably lost 10 out of 70 who started our A&P II class. I think a lot more failed (below the required 80% overall), so cannot start or continue on, if they are already in, the nursing program.
Also, when I took Nursing 101 last semester, we had about 45 in our one lecture group, and lost about 4 or 5 by the end. Not a lot, but again, some failed after the last exam. Since each course is only offered 1x per year, they have to wait a whole year before re-taking it. I don't know how many left the other lecture group, but I'm sure it was more, as it was bigger than ours.

Well I guess I am one of these people you all are discussing. I was in an lpn program and had to leave a month into it which was not an easy thing to do. I am going back next year as a returning student and they are keeping my spot open for me. Just wanted to say that people sometimes have to leave for reasons beyond their control. They are not all crybabies and weaklings. Just my .02
