  1. Christmas Eve Morning, 15 minutes after her shift was to start. The call comes in. "I had diarrhea in my car".
  2. We give neupogen a lot to our patients and I have only seen it done SQ. I was not even aware IV was an option.
  3. what is your age? 36 2. how long have you been a nurse? almost 2 years 3. did you work as a cna before becoming a nurse? yes 4. if yes to #3, how long did you work as a cna before becoming a nurse? 2 years 5. if no to #3, do you wish that you had? 6. regardless of whether you worked as a cna prior to becoming a nurse, do you believe working as a cna prior to nursing better prepares you to be a nurse? feel free to elaborate on your response. i definitely think everyone should work as a cna prior to becoming a nurse. not only does it help you feel more comfortable with general patient care it helps you appreciate your cna's when you do become a nurse. they are your eyes and ears for everything and certainly make your day a lot better. it also may stop certain nurses from thinking they are to high and mighty to clean up patients or fill a water pitcher. i would never ask my cna to do anything i would not do myself.
  4. Not sure how good of an indicator they are but my instructor for Kaplan said that if you are getting between 65-70% on the quizzes you were doing good. We had to get a 70% on our benchmark exam for the director of our school to sign off for state boards. I think I got around a 74 and passed the boards at 75 questions. I did feel the Kaplan questions were set up similar to NCLEX. Best of luck to you, Jenn:D
  5. I passed using Kaplan. It was one of the courses offered through school and I do feel it really helped. It helped you look for those key words that NCLEX uses such as if you see the word "restless" they are thinking hypoxia and just ways to break apart the questions and answers. I basically just did the 7 question trainers and studied a lot of questions from other sources. In my opinion I don't think Kaplan alone prepares you it just gives you the tools to read questions a different way. Good luck to you Jenn:smilecoffeecup:
  6. :anpom:I PASSED!! What a relief it is! Congrats to all! Jenn
  7. Hi, Just got home from taking NCLEX. I had 75 questions. 1 SATA and 1 Math. Is 75 questions a good or a bad sign? Good luck to all! Jenn
  8. HI, They have a new semester start every 8 weeks for daylight and every 16 weeks for evenings. The new semester just started this week. You can call the school and they can get you any information you would need. I just graduated from Shadyside so let me know if you need anything Jenn
  9. Congrats!! You will do great!! I am part of the E/W 2008 class so let me know if you need anything! Jenn:yelclap:
  10. HI, I have 4 more semesters to go in the E/W program. I absolutely love the school and would highly recommend it. I feel I have learned so much! The clinical experiences are wonderful. There are two other threads about UPMC Shadyside on this board so check those out too. Best of Luck, Jenn
  11. I received my child abuse clearance yesterday!! They only got it on the 16th! Super fast. I am very happy I got it this quick! Jenn
  12. I needed the child abuse, not criminal, so that one cant be done online unfortunately.
  13. Hi, Did it really only take a little over a week to get back? I need mine by May 1st and am scared to death I wont get it in time. I sent it last Friday priority mail. Jenn
  14. We start clinicals in the 4th semester. (total of 12) We don't go to just Shadyside. They use Presby, Magee, Children's, Braddock, Western Psych, South Side (basically all UPMC). Best of luck to you. Keep me posted. Jenn
  15. The Chatham teachers come to the school of nursing. The only thing we went to the college for was labs on weekends. (micro lab and A&P I and II) It is fairly close to the school and on the weekends you can park at the college instead of street parking. I really love the E/W program. I don't think I could do it any other way. The teachers are awesome and very willing to help. The classes are hard but it can be done if you put forth the effort. All the tests are NCLEX type questions so it starts you critically thinking from day one. Clinicals are nice to. There are small groups and most of the floors are very welcoming to us. It is also nice we start clinicals fairly quickly in the education that way we are not so scared when we get to the harder classes. Please let me know if there is anything else you need.
