UPMC Mercy School of Nursing
They will take any classes that are from the last five years. so hopefully yours are. I had a few that were too old. Monday I have clinical from 7 am - 11. We are split into groups of 8 and assigned a room with usually two students to a room ( 1 per patient). The teachers are so helpful and dont just throw you in there. The nurses are nice too. Wednesday is skills lab from 7-11 again. You are in your clinical group and you go to the lab where you learn things on dummies. The clinical isntructor will show you really helpful videos on what the topic that week is and then you will practice on dummies. Lecture on the other two days doesn't start until 8. One day its over at 12 the other 3. They send you a book list so you can order from Rittenhouse but I got half of my books from Amazon for cheaper. I ended up spending about 500 total, maybe a little less.

i love it! I really do. It is so interesting and the teachers are great. they are really nice. if you have specific questions let me know. I really like the schedule, its great. i have one long day and one short day of lecture and then 4 hours of skills lab and 4 hours of clinical in a week. if you can get anatomy and all the other electives out of the way i would do that.

upmc mercy school of nursing
They did not merge with Shadyside. I just got in for the August semester. I chose that school over Shadyside because they have 10 week terms which means less classes per term. And more time to concentrate on each class. I can't really tell you that much about it since I haven't started yet, but you should give them a call.

need job in hospital
I am currently taking some classes to get out of the way before I start a nursing program in August. I am looking for a new job and would like to get one in a hopsital if thats possible. Does anyone know if there would be any jobs there that I would qualify for without have a nursing degree yet? I wasn't sure where to post this but I live in Pa so I thought I might post it here. thanks!

pay in pittsburgh?
thanks for the answers. Now when you guys say it depends on what shift you work what does that mean? What are the higher paying shifts? Also, what times are the shifts and can you choose if you work a day or night shift or do they just tell you?

shadyside school of nursing questions
thank you both so much for the help. I actually emailed natalie from Shadyside but she told me to just keep checking the website. She wouldn't give me an answer as to when the programs start so your answers were a huge help. Now I know how to plan for it. If I have any more questions, which I'm sure I will, I know where to go. Thanks again. I'll keep checking the website to see if its up so I can get the applications.

shadyside school of nursing questions
I have decided to apply to shadyside school of nursing but am having some trouble getting information off of their site. Does anyone know when their programs start? I want to go full time, not weekend/nights. When are the deadlines? I guess I fill out a registration form to take the PSB exam first, right? But I cant find the form anywhere either. Does anyone know where these things can be found. I would like to know when their next two programs start so I can decide which one to apply for. Thanks

upmc school of nursing?
ok, sounds good. i am definitely going to call there and find out what i need to do to get into the program. I would rather be in a program with more clinicals than book work and i hear community is a lot of book work. Thanks again for the advice.

upmc school of nursing?
I am going to be applying for the nursing program at my community college and taking the test in February. I am scared that I won't get in so should I also apply to a UPMC school? Does anyone know anything about these schools? All I know is that you get a diploma instead of a degree. Can you still be an RN with a diploma? Is there a difference in pay? Anything you guys know about UPMC schools would be great. Deadlines for applying, prereqs, etc. I can't seem to find any of that info online. Thanks for your help.
