Hello,
I've been searching through the message boards and I just can't find much information on people who go/have gone to the nursing program at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. I was wondering...what was your entering GPA? What was your NET score? How did you like it? What hospitals did the school use for classes? Do you feel like you got a good education there?
Thanks so much!
Sarah
Hey guys; sorry it's taken me so long to respond, I've been busy with finals! yay!! my first semester down!! i'll give advice even if you'll need it or you won't. but i'm just trying to give you guys a heads up.
As far as 2.5 years vs 2 years; well it was rumored that the curriculum was changing but as of NOW it's still 2.5; I know this because unfortunately one of my friends didn't make it this semester so she will repeat and they gave her a tentative graduation date of May 2012; and that is a semester behind mine, so it looks to still be 2.5.
Books: I can tell you that the Health Assessment book is CHANGING!!!! BE GLADDDDDDD. Our book was a effin med school book and she realized that. Yalls book is VERRRRRRRY easy. Since I'm an overachieverrrr and I know how to get the editions for the books I will post them on here for you. Yes, you're welcome hahah. I'm kidding. I can tell you the Pathophysiology and the Intro to Nursing book; YOU DO NOT NEED THEM!! But to each their own. In intro; its REALLLLLLLLY BORING. You can get away in intro by using the powerpoints she gives out. I hardly ever went to class it was so boring. All I did was read the powerpoints the night before if not the day of the test and I pull high B's and a 90 on the last one. I made an 84 in the class; the book is a boring book. But to each its own. In pathophysiology, I didn't use the book. I bought it brand new and NEVER OPENED IT. She gives a "blueprint" which is a study guide of whats on the test and the blueprint IS THE TEST; I repeat the BLUEPRINT IS THE TEST. She gives a review the day of the test; take your blueprint up there and listen to her then take 3 hours that you have after the review and read your blueprint if you fail; I don't know whats wrong with you because she is SO STRAIGHTFORWARRRRD!!! I made an 88 in there again with NO BOOK. The only book I highlighted and used EVERYDAY was my health assessment book so I ADVISE YOU TO REAAAD IT; you'll come to learn that the teacher for that, who is also your teacher for intro will lie to you. She is VERYYY wishy washy and she doesn't know how to write tests; but it should be different for yall because she taught us out of your book that you will have next semester ALTHOUGH WE HAD OUR OLD BOOK. Yeah, I don't know why either.
PHARMACOLOGY, PHARMACOLOGY, PHARMACOLOGY lol; TAKE IT ELSEWHERE; once again TAKE IT ELSEWHERE. Since I will be in 2nd semester it would be my time to register for Pharm; umm nope not at MSU. I have friends in various semesters and even people I don't know with whom I just RANDOMLY stopped and asked and they ALL SAY take it somewhere else. NO JOKE; Pharm is HARD at MSU. I'm taking mine at EL CENTRO. I know DCCCD and HCC's pharm transfers, I am not sure about TCC, or Collin County but I'm sure it will just as long as its RNSG and not HPRS.
As far as Clinical/Sims Lab goes. It's so great. You will get a folder that has everything that you will learn in it. You go every week and it prepares you for the practicum. I will be more than willing to help anybody with their practicum. I got 120.5 points out of 135, so I did very well. I will be at yalls orientation on the 30th because I am an officer in the Student Nurse Association; which I advise all of you to join; YES YOU HAVE TIME; so don't say you won't. (OH AND VOTE FOR ME NEXT ELECTION SINCE IM SOOOO HELPFUL NOW; yes I'm recruiting early hahaha). I am more than willing to help if you're willing to ask.
Apartments: On campus is fine. They are a little pricey that's becuase your rent covers the cost of everything except food. Some REALLY REALLY REALLY nice ones are called Stone Ranch. They are HELLA expensive to me; but everybody's price range is different. I think its around 800ish for a one bedroom. I stay in what is designated "low income" apartments. They are REALLLLLLLLLY nice. I pay 351 for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath 963 sqft apartment. It's relatively close to the school; maybe about a mile or two. These are VERY HARD TO GET INTO; so if you're interested send me a PM and I will tell you how to get into those. The apartments I live in also has a "sister" location called Washington Village. They have 1, 2, and 3 bedrooms. They are a little farther from school but not too far. Those are only a year old and they are a little harder to get into as well. They have a website if you would like to go see them. My apartments which are called Woodview do not have a website and they are 5 years old but they LOOK THE EXACT SAME. So that can give you an idea. Some apartments I recommend are Woodview, Washington Village, Stone Ranch, Wellington on the Lake, Tealwood (low income like mine but a little bit more expensive); these are just some I have off the top of my head; if I can think of the other ones I'm thinking of I'll post it later.
I have an associates degree (non nursing) and I'm considered "core complete" so I don't have to take the P.E. or the ECON credit. So if you're core complete then you won't have to take it. Although I am taking P.E. next semester to help me be fulltime for financial aid purposes...
ALSO I HIGHLY RECCOMEND GETTING YOUR BOOKS FROM HALF.COM. THe bookstore will rip you off. I SAVED TONNNNNS of MOULAHHH. Order them now so you can have them in time for class. I wouldn't wait any longer than a week before so that can ensure enough time.

You will also need a "NURSE KIT"
I bought my stuff seperately from the bookstore because it was cheaper and I didn't want the stethoscope they had in the kit because I wanted a better quality one. I have a Littmann stethoscope. My best reccomendation is this; whatever stethoscope you start with in Health Assessment use it throughout because once you get use to it, it will be hard to change later on in semesters. I personally do not like the "sprague-rappaport" style stethoscopes that you will get in the nurse kit from the school because it is "double-tubing" and they rub together so you get a lot of excess noise in them; but a lot of people do fine with those; so again to each their own.
I hope I covered everything; so if you have anymore questions please feel free to ask; I will answer what I can.
Hello all!!!!! To boosh17 sorry I havent been gettin any email notifications about any new posts....but Im living in McCullough Trigg hall....and they are private regular rooms...which means we get our own door YAY!!! but lol they already assigned me a roommate...but Im on the 3rd floor and they still have 2 rooms open so when you apply and send in your deposit just write on there that you request to stay on the 3rd floor and we just might end up being suite mates!
Thanks for the great info pretty ladie, I had a question though, before I order the books, I want to make 100 percent sure that those are the books they are using for the Spring 2010(Jan-May 2010 semester also, you know how it is, always updating their editions....and don't want to waste my money if they decide to do that. I apologize if any of this is in previous threads, but what vaccinations does the Nursing Program require, I would like to get them all out of the way, I know you have to have a Tetorifice shot within the last ten years, and have at least the first hepatitis B shot by the end of January, are there any others? Thanks in advance, Angela
also if you have any info on scholarships that would be great too:-)
Hey has anybody found anywhere to buy the Health Assessment book other than the bookstore????I keep searching and searching and I keep coming up on the 5th 2007 edition...we need the 5th 2008 edition. I been on half.com, chegg, alibris, bookbyte, amazon, google ect...i cant find it!!!! I went to one website http://www.us.elsevierhealth.com/product.jsp?isbn=9781416032434 and they have it for 96.95....(elsevier is the publisher of the book)...so from the way I see it...its either the bookstore or elsevier)
I have a 2bd 2 full bath apartment 963 sqft and I pay 351 a month. They are considered "low income" and they go off of your income and grants too; email me for details if you're looking for really nice apartments for a considerable budget. I can tell you how to get into these. The apartment location I stay in also has a "sister" location and their prices start around 430 a month. PM me with your questions about anything.
Hey pretty lady, it wouldn't let me PM you but I was interested in how I would be able to get in the designated low income apartments? Loll
