Microbiology, Anatomy, Physiology, anyone successfully complete these in one term?

Published

I need encouragement, I just signed up for Microbiology, Anatomy, and Physiology ( I am not talking about API or AP II, actually taking a full anatomy course and seperate physiology course to fufill my AP requirements). I am just dying to get my prereq's overwith so I can apply to nursing school, or at least get on a wait list. I have absolutely everything else I need done.

Anyone conquer this in one term and get through it??? I will not be working at all with the exception of my four hours a week volunteering at a hospital and I am married with a 2 year old who will be in daycare full time while I attempt this.

Pulleeaase give me some encouragement, stories, whatever!

I can caution you that you may find it difficult getting into nursing school if you do not pull A's in these courses and that you are making it difficult on yourself by creating this kind of schedule. Yes, there are people who could pull this off, but then again you just might be biting off more than you can chew. Do what you must, but attempt this with your eyes wide open. If you find that it is too much, then drop one of them by the deadline so it does not appear on your transcipts. Good luck.

There is No way I would ever try this! I would want to be able to completely focus

on each class and there is Soooo much work, memorization, etc to learn for each of these classes.

I'm currently in APII and Micro but only because I've taken them before; repeating d/t over 5 years old.

I wish you success in this endeavor.

I think you can do it.

In college, I took some pretty incredible course loads (including 2 semesters of organic chemistry) and came out alive, with a 3.3 GPA no less.

Anatomy involves an incredible amount of memorization. Make notecards, and draw diagrams. Your grade will depend on them. lol. Physiology involves a lot of complex concepts. Somewhat boring. I personally found micro a breeze, but very very interesting.

If it were me, I'd do it, especially with what you've done to clear your schedule out. Anatomy and Micro were two of my favorite classes.

I should mention I was a bio major. But you have all the prereqs that I had when I took those classes. I think you should go for it. :)

It all depends on the person and what other things you have going on. I only work part time, but these 2 classes require 20 hours a week of studying to pull off an A (well that's what my professors say).

I am currently taking Micro and APII and it is killing me. I am the type of person that wants A's and only A's and by taking both of these classes I'll doubt that will happen. I also work 20 hours a week, but the information in both classes is so intense. I am considering dropping APII if I don't get into the only nursing school I have applied to. If I don't get it in, I will drop AP II, and then just take it in the summer.

It depends on your abilities. Do you tend to do be one of the top 2 or 3 grades in the classes you take? Ive taken all of these courses and gotten As and they are difficult but doable. But I took them all seperately and I think all at once would be extremely difficult but possible. But unless you are the kind of student I mentioned above you are probably just shooting yourself in the foot. Nursing schools are so competitive that you really wanna make sure you get As in those classes as i think schools look really closely at those classes in particular and they dont care whether you took it seperately or all at once. That said, good luck and it is doable as long as you are being realistic in terms of how much time you can dedicate to this undertaking.

i also think it is possible. i took micro and a&p 2 together and didn't find myself completely overwhelmed like some have. i also took psychology that term. it was something i knew i was capable of doing (i have a sharp memory). you know yourself best. if you have doubts, better to not do it. if you know you can do it, go for it. it's not impossible.

Not as 3 seperate classes, no. My school combines the three and splits them into NAS 161 & 162 (4 credits each).

I am also married with a 17-month old who is in daycare, while I go to school or stay home. I am taking 7 credits this semester one of which is CHM, and I have more than enough time on my hands. Sometimes I feel like I should be taking more classes, but there isn't anything left to take.

Considering your classes will put you at between 9 and 12 credits, this seems like good training for the nursing program for you! Just tell yourself, if you can do this, you can do anything. I think you can do it. All of those classes require a lot of time, so taking them together is no different then taking them apart, except that you will have less time for yourself and your husband. Make use of every minute in your day. And you will be ready for nursing school, because that is how everyone describes it anyways!

Good luck, YOU CAN DO IT!!

I did Micro and A&P II together. It was still very difficult, and people looked at me like I was crazy but I aced both! Also at that time my son was 11 -15 months and stayed at home with me. I also had two other classes that I juggled at the same time as well. So it can be done! It all depends on how focused you are and how you manage your time.

I agree that the work can overwhelm you at times... but the worst part is the pressure that we put on ourselves to maintain that 4.0 GPA.

I too am taking Physiology and Micro right now, and am also student teaching in Anatomy. I have a six year-old here as well.

Good luck to you... just stay focused and force yourself to put in the hours needed EVERY DAY to stay ahead in study.

im planning on taking AP2 and microbio both at the same time in the summer... which is much less time than fall and spring semester

Definitely. Keeping up with the reading is a must. That makes studying for the test so much easier.
