Miami Dade College (MDC) Fall 2012 Full-time/Part-time Nursing program

Published

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to start a thread for people interested in the MDC nursing program for fall 2012. I think if you shared your scores (TEAS V & GPA) and what track your applying to (full-time or part-time), it will give everyone an idea of where they stand.

I will start:

I have a 3.7 GPA and an 81% on the TEAS and looking to apply for the part-time program. I have the option of taking the TEAS 2 more times which I will be doing :)

Hi Everyone,

So I was on campus today to turn in my medical forms and was able to get some infomration. The number keep changing because of the number of students that have decided to be in the program. Also some of the numbers are changing because of people who are retaking classes. There was a girl in the window next to me registering for classes because she left mid sememster to have a baby.

We will get the chance to register for classes after orientation. Three is no registration before that. Also you must choose a sequence and stick with it. If you need afternoon classes they said to choose sequence three.

Everything I've read says that the HBV vaccine is effective for the vast majority of people for at least 15 years. The three cases you cite may be outliers -- or not. It seems to last longer in adults; immunity seems to wane more in young children who've received the vaccination.

It's not that easy to measure current immunity to hep B, even with a titer, according to this article:

For How Long is the Hepatitis B Vaccine Effective?

Hey Studybudy,

You lose nothing by calling or going to ask about your status. When I was supposed to receive my acceptance e-mail, I waited 3 days, and it turned out they had my e-mail address down wrong.

I don't want to give you false hope and say that this is the case, but again it never hurts. Give it a shot!

Zephead,

Who did you contact to confirm your email address?? Everyone I keep calling doesn't answer. I've sent emails too and the advisement office keeps telling me without looking ANYWHERE that it'd my mdc email...

I went over in person. Apparently my e-mail address was recorded with an @mdc.edu on the end instead of a @mymdc.net . I went over to see an advisor, the problem was corrected, and I got my e-mail within a couple of hours.

Again, I'm not saying that would be the case for everyone, but it doesn't hurt to at least check. Perhaps you'll be able to discuss your status with the advisor. I hope it all works out for the best!

You'd think it would raise a flag when the mail they send bounces.

ZeppHead8, do you have a list of required books handy? When I get a chance, I'll go to the bookstore and look for the ISBNs of the materials we'll need for the five first semester generic track courses.

Hi there, Sil2012,

Yes, I did do my medical and background, but, for my plan B,( another school). The Titers take awhile for them to come back and then the Dr.'s office to write up the report, so I didn't waste anytime, waiting. I have been working on my profile for weeks. And, I went to Orientation for my plan B school, but, I' m holding out for my plan A school, MDC. But, I'm going to take advice from ZeppHead and Yadi and I'm going down to Medical campus next week to verify my status. Do you have a Plan B school? If so which one? Are u going to Medical? Let me know we could meet there.

Sure Hip, lemme PM you.

Thank you, Zepp!

ok so mdc financial aid dept is so totally F'ed up.

so first since i have a bachelors i need to do academic appeal due to excess credits(takes 6-8 weeks to process)

second need to do a totally different app for loans( wont disburse for 6-8 weeks AFTER my appeal is completed) oh and loan app wont be available till...well they dont even know yet

money for classes is due roughly around Aug 13 or so if we register july 13 (homestead orientation date)

i asked them if the money isnt available ( through no fault of my own since all apps are processing and take forever) will my classes get dropped...short answer..yes

their solution take out short term loan that only covers 50% of tuition, like seriously if i had that kinda money i wouldnt need the loan.

so if anyone else is in the same boat , any solutions or have you heard anything diff from financial aid?

at FIU there was no sep. application once you did your fafsa you were done and the loans were available a month before classes started and as long as they showed pending and they covered the full amount they didnt drop your course.

mdc is really messed up , who does a loan that disburses after the classes start knowing full well they will drop your courses?

Yadi I've done many appeals. Not for my GPA or excess credits, but for MANY withdraws I made years ago. I've done two appeals just this past year. They say it takes 6-8 weeks but it never does. Not even close. My appeals always get accepted in less than 2 weeks. I thought I had to start off the nursing program in August with another appeal but I called the medical campus and I'm good to Spring..Lol..Just go ahead and turn it in and you should have more than enough time before the payment deadline.

To Yadi87,

I hope this will help. Ask the BURSur or your financial aid advisor for an extention so your classes don't get dropped. Tip: Ask nicely :loveya: I did this a lot while I worked on my pre req's.The extension gives you a little more time to process your financial aid package. So it helps out while others funds become available so your classes do not get dropped. Let me know if it works out.:twocents:

Yadi- I'm in the same boat. Talked to a guy at fin aid med campus window today at lunchtime, and he said apps should be available end of July. MY problem is that to apply for the needs based nursing scholarship we need a SAR from fin aid, and that scholarship app is due Aug. 3. We can't have these forms done and processed in time, in my opinion. It stinks. If you hear of anything else, let me know :/
