Miami Dade College (MDC) Fall 2012 Full-time/Part-time Nursing program

Published

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to start a thread for people interested in the MDC nursing program for fall 2012. I think if you shared your scores (TEAS V & GPA) and what track your applying to (full-time or part-time), it will give everyone an idea of where they stand.

I will start:

I have a 3.7 GPA and an 81% on the TEAS and looking to apply for the part-time program. I have the option of taking the TEAS 2 more times which I will be doing :)

I've seen the number of available seats changing for some clasess. I wonder if that means some students were able to register.... I thought we wouldn't be able to register until Orientation day. Does anybody know what's going on?

I think the people who already registered for the class failed it and have to retake it. Or they were able to register directly thru an advisor. I am getting nervous because I would like to keep a morning schedule. I dont want afternoon classes, like in seq 3.

once orientation is done with, we'll have more answers. count me in on a study group. we are going to have to stick together for the next 18 months =)

as soon as i am able to send our messages I will send you my info so taht we can get in contact.

i wouldn't worry about the # of seats. if you got your acceptance letter, then it's a done deal. what im worried about is the clinical sites. does anyone know if we get to pick them, or are they chosen for us? and whats up with the sequences???

great thanks for the link, it makes sense that they would divide it like that

Im worried about the number of seats because I need to stick with the morning schedule as well...Unfortunately, I'll be working while doing the full-time program.

From what I heard from previous semesters is that you're able to start registering after orientation. That's why I heard its best to bring your laptop/iPad/tablet to orientation cause everybody will be registering at the same time. I heard that its like a feeding frenzy lol, everybody trying to get their preferences of classes. Somebody might want to confirm this as this was all hearsay.

If it's like that then I'm definitely taking my laptop..lol..I need to avoid those morning classes.

Did you guys get the email about the nursing scholarships? Looks like there are many available. Wouldn't hurt to try.

yeah i got that same email, the worse thing they can say is no. quick question... did any of you get the hepatitis shot at the place that charges 170 on nw 9th??? i went for my first visit today, and did 1st tb, tube of blood, and drug screen, but im wondering if they give it to you the 2nd or 3rd day.

marcnmiami26, the HBV vaccine was never mentioned to me. When I saw the physician on the third visit I mentioned that I got the vaccine ten or so years ago, and wondered if I should get a titer, but she said that once you get it, you have lifetime immunity. I read about it, and it's apparently 95% effective, but without a titer, I don't know that I'm not among the unfortunate 5%.

Now I need to see if my old doctor/clinic can find my vaccination record. I'm not sure if you can practice without proof of hep B immunity. I have no idea what the school policy is, though they do let you decline the vaccination.

Meanwhile, my varicella and rubella titers are at or near zero. The doctor charges $60 for the MMR vaccine and $120 for the varicella vaccine. I'm going to check with the Miami-Dade Dept. of Health clinics to see if they can do it more cheaply, or if I can get it under my insurance (though it may fall within my enormous yearly deductible).

Don't be so certain on the Hep B immunity. I had the shots 8 ears ago, so had titers pulled and I'm not immune. Also, my parents used to own a medical practice and would have titers pulled for Hep B every so often, and they were never immune. I, at this point, have declined it, but can look into the vax later if need be.
