Hey everyone,
I just wanted to start a thread for people interested in the MDC nursing program for fall 2012. I think if you shared your scores (TEAS V & GPA) and what track your applying to (full-time or part-time), it will give everyone an idea of where they stand.
I will start:
I have a 3.7 GPA and an 81% on the TEAS and looking to apply for the part-time program. I have the option of taking the TEAS 2 more times which I will be doing :)
First , I miss you all, while I was waiting for acceptance I used to checked like hundred times this forum. I got into the generic full time at medical. Yeaahhh super excited!!!! If they make me talk about me the first day of class I will tell you that I was here. Don't forget.... Dany86... See you there!!!!
Hello shuggy18,
You r up my alley. Study, study, with a buddy. Like in previous threads from third and fourth semester students have said "Hit the ground runnin'" "Study smarter, you don't have time to read the whole book, use NCLEX review as yur guide and start reading and using it from day one." Any tips from good note takers and test takers? Give it up!:loveya:
Do this (if you want to) after your status changes from Nursing Preselect to the actual (A.S. or ADN) nursing program.
Short-Term Loan
"Short Term Loans are available to students unable to pay the full amount of their schedule by the payment due date. The Short Term Loan allows the student to make two payments on their instate tuition. The first payment is due by the schedule’s due date and the second payment due date will be provided on the Short Term Loan Promissory Note, usually about two months after the beginning of the term. However you may pay the loan off on or before the due date of the note."

Do this after your status changes from Nursing Preselect to the actual (A.S. or ADN) nursing program if you have too many credits (for example, if you already have a bachelor's degeree) to qualify for a student loan, but still want one.
Standards of Academic Progress Appeal
Go to Important Forms - Financial Aid and Scholarships - Miami Dade College
Click on 2012-2013 Standards of Academic Progress Appeal (at the bottom).
Fill out the Web form, print it, attach to it your reason for appealing (e.g., have a BS degree but are changing careers), and bring to advisement.
Hi there Tragically Hip,Do u know when is the close date???
If by "close date" you mean the date they stop sending out acceptances, it's the first week of classes. I guess doing everything you need to do (drug test, titers, vaccines(?), check-up, registration, buying books, uniform, stethoscope, etc., and registration and financial aid stuff) if you start when classes start will be a bit of a scramble.
Yadi87,
I'm in the same boat as you. I already have a Bachelor's degree. The guy at financial aid told me that I can't do the appeal or apply for loans until after orientation. I'm freaking out because that's cutting it really close. I want to get the money now so I can get my books and start studying before classes start.

yadi87, I presume you did a FAFSA for 2012/2013. You'll have to file a paper with the financial aid office that's something like a petition that explains why, even though you already have 4-year degree, why you want a loan now. I can give you the link to the document tonight, when I get home.
It looks like our congress is going to sit on their hands and let the interest rate for guaranteed loans double -- we shall see. You might be better off going to a bank and getting a private loan, if your credit is good. As it is, a guaranteed loan cannot be discharged, even with bankruptcy, though that may change.
