MGHIHP ABSN Spring 2015

Published

Hello applicants! The time is coming close to finding out if we are in or not, just checking in with others. From last year's thread it seems around 8/31 we will know! Good luck all!!

Is anyone else who's accepted freaking out about student loans? I got no scholarship..... I'm going to have to end up taking out probably $70,000 in loans..... I'm 24-How am I even going save for a house after I graduate while paying back $800 a month!!?!? Is it worth it? :((((

what was/or is everyone's 1st choice school?

MGH and Georgetown are my top schools, but considering the significant tuition difference (and scholarship), I will most likely end up at MGH :) I currently live in DC. Does anyone have any recs on best neighborhoods/where to live in Boston!?

I will be taking out loans too! and it will be worth it! I started looking for scholarships to apply to as well as different loan rates companies offer. I've heard of people who work in low income areas qualifying for loan forgiveness. AND if your really want a new adventure, the military will pay off your loans if you join. But regardless, after you start working your income ratio to debt will be worth it for your future. PLUS you'll be doing something you actually want to do and not just working for a paycheck . . hopefully

MGH was my top choice and my only choice! I went to an info session last year and knew right then that it was the perfect fit for me.

I agree with everyone that said the essay is critical. I figured I'm competing with others that have either the same or better GPA so I have to dig deep and really figure out what is unique about me and what separates me from others. How does my past lend itself to becoming a great nurse. I have zero medical background, and from what I learned at the info session the accelerated program is geared towards attracting people from outside the field. So if you are in the field already really make yourself stand out from all the others who want to become nurses.

My reccs were from 2 profs (one was my AP I and II prof) and I stressed to them that it's an accelerated program and I need them to show that not only can I keep up but an thrive. My other was a professional I worked with through a famous brand. Between my essay and recs (who does the rec is as important as what they are saying) that was able to convey me as a person outside of just my grades. I had 4 reccs and was able to pick the 3 ppl I thought had the strongest background. I put everything into my MGH app cause it's the only place I wanted to go! Thank God for the generous scholarship too, makes me feel good that they wanted me as much as I wanted them. Good luck!

Hi everyone!

I haven't been able to go to an info session yet, so I don't know much about the program. How much of it is online? How do clinicals work? I googled mghihp reviews and an online forum had some pretty negative reviews which makes me nervous...

For those of you who have decided to go, what have been your reasons?

I was recently accepted, but it's a scary decision to commit!

Does anyone feel skeptical about the majority of the courses being online? Don't get me wrong, it's my top choice, but I have also read a lot of reviews online about how it is not ideal that you are learning a completely new discipline online instead of in the classroom. Just curious is any current students have perspective on this, thanks!

There is no class 100% online. There are hybrid classes which gives enough face-to face. Faculty is always available to meet you. let me know if you have any questions

thanks for clearing this up, ihealthy!!

Hey everyone!!

Thanks for all the info about MGH! I am not from the Boston area and was recently accepted for the Spring 2015 cohort and am very excited! However, I really don't know much about the program and haven't had a chance to attend an info session. Does anyone have an information about the structure of the classes? Or any info about where we do clinical rotations and such? Thanks for any help!

Hey absn55 we're in the same boat. I read a few negative reviews that bummed me out, however they were a bit dated. I would really love to chat with someone who knows more about the program, because people seem really excited about it and it looks like a great school! I keep thinking maybe I don't know anything about it because I'm not from the area, you know? I'm not sure. I saw that someone mentioned classes were hybrid or online, which kinda throws me off.

I have a question for you, since you are currently in the program. It says the program is 14 months, however if it is four semesters, that goes over 14 months. Is the final clinical semester shortened? Thanks for your help!
