  1. Skay226, I deferred my acceptance until May so I could apply to cheaper schools! still waiting to hear back from a school that is less than 20,000 for the whole program-- If I get in, then MGH is definitely a no go but if not than I will have a tough decision to make. Windersurfer and ThatBigGuy, thanks for your responses. If I don't get into the cheaper school, do you think I should just put it off another year and hope I get into the cheaper school next year to avoid the loans? It will suck not being able to start my career/life. A lot of my friends have large loans but make decent money so are still able to save money, buy cars, thinking about buying houses, progress in their careers, while i'm completely STUCK in all aspects of my life. I am sooooo unhappy not having a legitimate career yet and having to put it off another year will KILL me. But what are your thoughts, should I put it off another year and apply to the cheaper schools again (if i dont get in) ???

  11. Hi everyone, This is kind of a pointless post but I can't decide what to do. I am 24 years old and just moved to a new city (expensive) and was offered a job working with young children with autism (ABA therapy) paying okay money. I will be able to scrape by with my salary but will not have too much left over after paying rent and groceries. I also have to use my car throughout the day which I do not like even though they pay me for gas. It would also look good on my resume. I was also offered a nanny job where I will be paid a lot more, will not need to use my car, and I would have extra money to spend on things I want (crossfit gym, saving up for school, etc.). If i took the nanny job, I would want to volunteer at a hospital as well to build my resume. I know it's stupid but I also don't like telling people that i'm a nanny and not having an actual job when they ask me what I do. I just wanted your opinions on this. What would you guys do??? I am hopefully starting my ABSN this Jan. or next summer, so I would only be at these jobs for a year at the most. Thanks for your responses :)
  12. I'm in the same boat as you. I am 24 and partied my way through undergrad with NO worries about the future. I graduated, realized that I f*cked up and wanted to go to PA school but realized how competitive it was. Took my nursing prerequisites and did great, and am HOPEFULLY starting my ABSN this spring or next fall. I was soooooo depressed/ashamed this past year because a lot of my friends are graduating with their masters, or are already nurses and starting NP school. I look back and literally have no idea what I was thinking throughout college, but I am extremely grateful and happy that I realized it when I did. I also may have never discovered my passion for healthcare if I didn't screw up before. Everyone has their own path in life, and in 5-10 years you will be a nurse/NP and this will all seem silly. Even though you feel old, 26 is EXTREMELY young. Some people go their whole lives without any direction, and spend their 20's working dead end jobs just to make money, so you are on the right path. These are the things that I try to think about when I start getting mad at myself for making bad decisions in the past :)
  13. Thanks for your responses! HouTx do you mean my gpa is too low to get accepted anywhere?
  14. Hi everyone, I need some advice. I am 24 years old and have an undergraduate degree already and have about $20,000 in student loans. My parents paid for the rest. I just applied to an accelerated nursing program for a January start (MGH in Boston). The cost of this program is over $50,000 and on top of that the cost of an apartment would be around $950 a month. I am a NY state resident so I am also applying to Stony Brook and SUNY Downstate for summer/fall start, along with some other programs. The in state tuition for these schools is extremely low and my parents would most likely pay for most of it. The cost of living wouldn't be a problem either since the tuition would be low. My problem is that my undergrad GPA is not great (3.1 ish but with a bunch of C's on my transcript in classes not related to nursing.. I have almost a 4.0 in prerequisites) so i'm not sure which programs I will gain acceptance to. So my question is this- IF I do get accepted to MGHIHP for a January start, should I just accept it and deal with the student loans. I would be done in 14 months and would be a nurse before I turn 26. Or should I wait and apply to cheaper schools and risk not getting accepted and possibly putting off my education even further. I would also like to be a family nurse practitioner by the time I am in my early 30's so time is also a factor. Advice please!!!
