MGH IHP Direct Entry NP 2015

Published

Hi folks! I couldn't find a post about the 2015 application cycle and I'm interested to see how other people are feeling about it. Since so many other schools have November deadlines, I've already finished up my MGH app (save my letters...) and submitted it.

I'm going after the psych direct-entry NP program. One of the nurses I work with had been in their NP program and recommended it very strongly. My own NP went to Yale and, weirdly enough, told me she hated Yale and wished she went to MGH. She then raved about all the MGH NPs she works with and how great they are. I'm applying to Yale anyway, since who knows what might happen, but I am reeeeeally hoping to get in!

They ask if you've worked for any Partners hospitals...anyone know if this actually affects your chances? Or what the estimated acceptance rates are by program?

Accepted into the Psych-Mental Health track. I am absolutely thrilled, but really wish that I could find a recent MGH direct-entry NP program graduate willing to discuss their post-graduation employment search. Essentially, any information regarding post-graduation job prospects for MGH direct-entry graduates would be helpful and very much appreciated. More specifically, I am very curious about employer perceptions of MGH direct-entry NP degrees (whether the degree is well-received by potential employers). Congratulations everyone! :)

I have a friend who lives in Boston who connected me with an extended friend who just graduated from the direct-entry Psych route at MGH. I'm going the Psych NP route as well so I was thrilled to talk with her! She just graduated from the program and got hired as a PMHNP in Boston right after passing her licensure exam. It's an outpatient private practice. She told me that it was very easy to find a job after graduating/passing the licensure exam. Hope this helps!

I know the Brigham hires MGH grads, as do some smaller hospitals outside of Boston. My own primary care office has a few MGH NPs. I don't know how MGH grads fare outside of MA. Also, PMHNPs are in high demand. It probably won't take long to find a job once we finish any program.

The need for nurses is expected to triple over the next 5 years, with NPs being included in that. If we all survive the program, then we are bound to be well off career-wise. Anyone have an idea of how many people they typically have in the program each Fall?

I got accepted to the Adult Acute Care track + scholarship! Of course they don't say how much. It didn't say my specialty in the letter but once I clicked on the "enrollment" link it showed my specialty. Congrats everyone!

They typically take around 100 students, it varies each year.

Open House is on the 28th for accepted students. Hope to meet some folks there!

I'll be there - acute care ftw

Hi! I'm new to this site-- I was just accepted to MGH's direct entry program for fall 2015! I realize this is a long shot, but I'm wondering if any current MGH students would be willing to show me around the campus this Friday (the 20th)? I'm not able to attend the open house and MGH does not accommodate one on one campus visits. Thanks in advance!

This is very helpful! Thank you! As snoozyd mentioned, I am also wondering how MGH direct-entry graduates fare outside of MA. For me, this information is vital to my decision, so I suppose my quest for answers begins. :)

Any Socal/out of state accepted people here?

And shall we make a FB group? I'll start one!

Hi snailszy,

When you create the Facebook group let me know what you call it. :) I would love to join.

Thanks for starting one.

Hi All!

First post, ever. I've been following various threads & decided to finally post after being accepted somewhere!

I have also been accepted to MGH too, Women's Health/Adult Gerontology track. Anyone else on this track? Also, anyone else accepted that is from California? I am from SF area.

Random Question - Is anyone else waiting on a couple of other schools to send decisions before they decide where they want to go? My concern is MGH wants a decision by March 11th & I won't have heard from everywhere yet....any advice on what people have done on the past or what they are going to potentially do about this if they are in the same situation?
