MGH IHP Direct Entry NP 2015

Published

Hi folks! I couldn't find a post about the 2015 application cycle and I'm interested to see how other people are feeling about it. Since so many other schools have November deadlines, I've already finished up my MGH app (save my letters...) and submitted it.

I'm going after the psych direct-entry NP program. One of the nurses I work with had been in their NP program and recommended it very strongly. My own NP went to Yale and, weirdly enough, told me she hated Yale and wished she went to MGH. She then raved about all the MGH NPs she works with and how great they are. I'm applying to Yale anyway, since who knows what might happen, but I am reeeeeally hoping to get in!

They ask if you've worked for any Partners hospitals...anyone know if this actually affects your chances? Or what the estimated acceptance rates are by program?

Congratulations! I am pleased to inform you that the Department of Nursing admissions committee, in coordination with the Office of Admission would like to offer you admission to the Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP program at the MGH Institute of Health Professions, with classes commencing Fall 2015.

I'm so happy

I got into the same program Romero!!

I think you either get into the track or you don't....but can't be sure....either way, I'm relieved/excited/overwhelmed!

$1000 for a ROOM in an apartment? Depends on where you're looking. I currently live in a one-bed in Brighton, which we lucked out on for $1300. Very doable to find a one-bed for under $1500, studios for less. For a room in an apartment - my last room before the one-bed was $650 (parking, heat/hw included, in a 4-bed house). However, commuting to the Navy Yard from Allston/Brighton is a real mess. The train from Allston/Brighton (B line on green) isn't even running currently due to the snow. So it's not worth it to live too far out on the regular (green) train lines.

You can also look outside of Boston proper. You'll want to look at areas with commuter rails that go into North Station. Waltham actually has good deals. Medford, Malden, Somerville, etc - all good stuff.

I'm in for pediatrics! Congratulations to everyone who got in and don't give up hope for the people who didn't/waitlisted. I had to take a year of rejection to improve my resume and it paid off tremendously.

Does anyone know the breakdown of tuition. I have my own numbers but I am not quite sure if it's accurate.

Based on my friend in the program now it's roughly ~110k for tuition and then living expenses on top of that.

Accepted :) Congrats to all!

I'm in for Psych! :) Congrats everyone! They offered me a scholarship, but not sure how much yet.

If you're accepted you are accepted to the track in which you applied or that's typically how it works, sometimes specialties are full so you could be offered a different one. I do believe there is an accepted students open house thing next weekend, they might not have said that yet. But if you live super far away then obviously don't worry about it, unless you're just itching to enjoy the bitter Boston cold.

Yeah if you actually scroll down to the enrollment form thingy it shows which specialty you were accepted to

Accepted into the FNP track! Most likely will be headed to Umass though...Congrats to everyone!

Accepted into the Psych-Mental Health track. I am absolutely thrilled, but really wish that I could find a recent MGH direct-entry NP program graduate willing to discuss their post-graduation employment search. Essentially, any information regarding post-graduation job prospects for MGH direct-entry graduates would be helpful and very much appreciated. More specifically, I am very curious about employer perceptions of MGH direct-entry NP degrees (whether the degree is well-received by potential employers). Congratulations everyone! :)
