MGH IHP Direct Entry NP 2015

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Hi folks! I couldn't find a post about the 2015 application cycle and I'm interested to see how other people are feeling about it. Since so many other schools have November deadlines, I've already finished up my MGH app (save my letters...) and submitted it.

I'm going after the psych direct-entry NP program. One of the nurses I work with had been in their NP program and recommended it very strongly. My own NP went to Yale and, weirdly enough, told me she hated Yale and wished she went to MGH. She then raved about all the MGH NPs she works with and how great they are. I'm applying to Yale anyway, since who knows what might happen, but I am reeeeeally hoping to get in!

They ask if you've worked for any Partners hospitals...anyone know if this actually affects your chances? Or what the estimated acceptance rates are by program?

Wait listed. Would have loved to have gotten in

wait listed. I'm really bummed. People who were accepted does it say when you need to let them know by? Cograts to all that did get in!

Do you guys all have a specialty listed in the letter? I applied for FNP but didn't see anything on the letter.

Congratulations! I am pleased to inform you that the Department of Nursing admissions committee, in coordination with the Office of Admission would like to offer you admission to the Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing program at the MGH Institute of Health Professions, with classes commencing Fall 2015.

Woohoo, I'm in for psych! Would we have gotten scholarship info in the letter?

Got in! They want a $500 deposit by 3/11. My letter did not say what track I got into. They did say I got a scholarship (!!), but said I'll find out the details via email in 3-5 business days.

I'm in as well, also mentioned a scholarship!

My specialty was listed in the letter ("Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing Psych-Mental Health Lifespan NP program at the MGH Institute of Health Professions, with classes commencing Fall 2015. ")

Give 'em a call tomorrow to make sure you're in for FNP!

Mine says I got into the track I applied to (acute), but maybe for some folks they accepted them just not for their intended track?

Thanks for the quick responses.

I had emailed them, and will call them tomorrow to see what's up with the specialty.

Can we talk about the logistics? Aka how much tuition is going to be?

I found out here: Bad Request that tuition per credit is $1136. But there's an audit fee, which I assume is if someone wants to listen to the lectures but not be graded??

So for the FNP track: MGH Institute of Health Professions - Family Specialty NP. There are 93 credits, so the grand total is

$106K for 3 years. Is this correct? How much is housing in this area? I know the city of Boston is very expensive.. $1000 for own room in an apartment. Are there cheaper alternatives aka cheaper areas to live in without a car?

I'm from California and have never been to the East Coast soooo I need all the help I can get !

I like that MGH has summer breaks, but I really want to get into BC because it is a shorter program! Are there any cons to MGH??

Waitlisted for Psych. I don't know a whole whole lot about MGH, but I'm surprised I got into Columbia but waitlisted at MGH. Anyone know how many students each school admitted?
