Yale GEPN 2016
Congratulations to everyone who was accepted! Getting into any NP program is a huge accomplishment and I'm sure you're all going to make wonderful practitioners. Try not to get too wrapped up in nursing school rankings (if anything, note where Yale ranks in regards to your specialty field) and enjoy your last few months of relative relaxation before your first year begins!

Yale GEPN 2016
Hey Ariellebelle, The vast majority of us live in East Rock, a neighborhood adjacent to downtown. I am one of those and it's really nice to be so close to everyone and everything. A few people live there or in Wooster Square, as well. But we also have a few people that live outside of New Haven - one girl even commutes from Westchester everyday. My understanding is that the commute can be long and crappy but since our lectures are recorded, they use their time in the car to study those. I can't speak for anyone else's social life, but mine was limited mostly to nursing school activities. My roommates and I promised ourselves that we would go out once a month. Study groups were a major source of social time. I didn't really go out too much simply because I felt too tired and busy, although when I did I went to the grad school bar, Gypsy because it's dirt cheap. The dating scene is pretty strong here, too.

Mammal, SOME of us were studying for their anatomy final instead of checking allnurses :) Sorry to everyone who didn't get in. There is a spot for you out there if this is your passion! It's a small network of NPs, so I bet we'll all be colleagues one day, anyway. And for those that did get some good news, I'll be joining Mammal for interview days, hopefully!

Yale GEPN 2016
I can't speak for anyone else, but I had a really relaxed interview. You meet with a faculty member from your specialty, and by this point they have already read you entire application so they aren't necessarily interested in hearing you repeat your resume verbatim. They want to see that you have personality and can basically play nicely with others. My interviewer just asked me a lot about what lead me to a career in nursing, and my perception of the NP career. She wanted to know why I was interested in Yale. We ended up talking for about an hour and a half. Unsurprisingly, like the rest of the application process, Yale has everything down to a science. They have presentations from various people throughout the day and you simply excuse yourself when it is your time to be interviewed. They'll have students around as well, so you can ask any of us questions. Like everyone has said before me, the real key is to just be yourself. Our professors can smell BS from a mile away. They want to see applicants who are put together, knowledgeable, passionate and personable.

Yale GEPN 2016
Hi all, current GEPN here currently procrastinating studying for her pharm exam tomorrow. Whoops. Anyway, I wanted to answer the question about the number of students per specialty. It varies with each cohort; however in general, the breakdown is the Psych, Midwifery and Family have approximately 20 students each. Peds will have between 10-12 and Acute Care and Adult-Gero have around 5 students each. There is a small amount of flexibility when it comes to switching your specialty because it comes down to the number of clinical sites that Yale has reserved each year. I hope everyone gets to enjoy their break even though I know how nerve-wracking the waiting process is. Just think that this time next year, you might be studying at the library surrounded by all your fellow GEPNs :) Misery loves company. P.S. Doulame and Mammal - you both are fabulous for answering everyone's questions!

Emory Fall 2015 Applicants
I wonder if anyone else is in a similar situation, but I will be taking a pre-req class this semester and given Emory's start date, I'm not sure I'll be done with my class before the start of term!

Vanderbilt MSN 2015
For those that are part of the 2nd year cohort 2.5 hours out of Nashville, do you remember how often we are expected to return to Vanderbilt? I am just trying to strategize financially and couldn't remember if it was once a month, once a semester or something else!
