i still stand b y what i said. Do something better.

I would suggest sticking it out, even if you do not make it. I have been a preceptor to several new grads before...

Stay strong.

Don't go into nursing, but if you're already in it, then stick it out and Stay Strong?

Did you advise the new orientees that you were precepting to get out of nursing?

I was extremely well liked on the unit. I have an odd personality, I think, which has made me loved by other nurses in a brotherly and interesting way.

Well liked despite the "I hate nursing" attitude.

Sorry you have not enjoyed your little time in Nursing. This is a tough life and you have to be a) good at what you do, and b) have to give a damn about others.

This is my 4th decade in nursing, primarily in the ED, but also management and currently in education. Becoming a nurse was the second best choice I ever made (just in case my wife reads this).

I was disappointed when my son and daughter did not elect to follow us in nursing. But to each his own.

Nowhere in the original post is there any reference to why it is only men who should avoid nursing. Title seems misleading.

After 31 years as an RT I became a nurse 6 years ago. I must say I'm glad I did though there have been ups and downs.

MEN - come into nursing. Qualified candidates will have no problem finding a job.

WOMEN - come into nursing. Qualified candidates will have no problem finding a job.

Who cares what country you are from. Be nice and have fun. Life is good.

I have been in nursing for 30+ years and have not regretted a minute of it. I have worked with great people and not so great people, from all around the world. It sounds like it is not the right fit for you. Perhaps you need to look at another career or another field of nursing. I have worked Med-surg, critical care, psych, ED, OR and now do education and research. and a little bit of consulting. By far, the OR was my favorite but age and injuries from the military catch up and had to slow down. I hope you are able to find your passion in life, but you cannot honestly say that nursing is bad for men because it is not true. Good luck.

I find it ironic how many people want to live in the US and we don't even offer national healthcare. I think it is shameful that we our one of the richest countries in the world, but don't even offer national healthcare for its citizens!
They want to live here because it is the best place to live. Nationalized healthcare has costs associated with it, look at the cost of your premiums since the ACA took effect. Costs go up and quality goes down. I travel around the world and our quality is the best I have seen. Britain, and Denmark, both have national "free" healthcare and yet, they work with old technology and worn out equipment because there is no money for new.

There are no nursing jobs...really? Look at how many on here have jobs after graduating in May pending their NCLEX exam results. Just saying

I don't know if men are temperamentally suited to work as nurses. It's an OK profession for men but it's not a very masculine profession which probably explains why so many men in nursing are gay. For women having a gay man on the floor is like having a girlfriend.

I'd like to remind everyone that nursing is one of the few professions where, depending on what unit you work, only requires you to work 13 shifts a MONTH, only firemen have better schedules than we do.

Agree. I work 6 on, 8 off. The only time my schedule varies is when it's time for me to work a holiday that falls on one of my days off. I have family in Florida and have the ability to spend two weeks per month there if I want to without ever having to request or take vacation time.

I think it is highly dependent upon your culture and the unit in which you work.

I would also add though that bedside nursing is not the only way of practicing in the profession.
