I ve worked in hospitals and nursing homes. It sucks. Dont let people here convince you on how great it is. If you are going back to school dont hang onto the mentality of "nursing is a great career there where always be jobs" that was 10 years ago when that was true. do research, there are no nursing jobs. People from overseas come here by the boat and take jobs. The wage is on the down trend, there are more then enough nurses to replace those ready to retire. Please if you are just getting into college pick a less stressful, good paying career choice. PPLEASE research on forums and here from nurses who are not happy with their career. coorprate has destroyed nursing. Dont listen to the few on here who say nursing is so wonderful, i promise you when they run out of paxil and adivan, which is fueling there happiness, they will no longer be posting on these boards on the issues of how great their jobs are.

I realise anything I say about the situation of nursing here in France will not apply to the vast majority of people on these boards who are in the US. However my more global point is that once in a while we do get some recognition, some good things do happen in nursing and there are many positive points to this profession. The OP has such a downer on nursing, and many of his points are valid, but we need to look at the whole picture. Warning all men not to come into nursing just because he made the wrong choice for himself is a little extreme. Wanting to have the "last laugh" as he puts it is not exactly suggesting his approach to this debate is objective or particularly constructive.
Perhaps for clarification, there was selective amounts of money being tossed around during COVID.
While there was no meaningful US gov't response for financially supporting the mass; other than a one time $1,200 check. Meanwhile, our society experienced a Pandemic that amplified all aspects of imbalance that already existed in our system. Poverty, housing instability, un/underinsured people, limited access to Internet access, healthcare, childcare, et al. meant that the have-nots suffered even more. For an alleged first world country, the US clearly does not clearly meet criteria for that anymore.
As for money being thrown at the problem, nurses/CNAs/HC workers had money thrown at them. Pay increases, plus hourly bonuses made things almost worth dealing with the system being overwhelmed. Understaffing got amplified. Rules increased. PPE got recycled. PTO nearly impossible to take. We are now even expected to work while we are sick. If there weren't any nursing shortages before, there will likely be a rise with that. I am one of many in my circle that left bedside nursing. Some RNs I know have left the profession entirely. Not sure the pipeline for new staff is growing enough to cover the frustration of travel/agency nurses not having their contracts renewed. The money is drying up, but the conditions are still intense. I bet unions will begin to grow more, as well as more nurses inspired to challenge our gov't reps to change the pro-corporate anti-work HC rules.

From a job outlook standpoint, this post did not age well. Jobs are everywhere and pay is starting to go up significantly.
From a job satisfaction standpoint, the bulk of that happiness comes from inside you. Yes there are aspects of every job that suck, but your response to them will impact how much it affects you.
Speak for yourself. Im a newer nurse and I'm absolutely killing it professionally and financially. I make what feels like a small fortune and my supervising staff are completely reliant on me and appreciative that I work there. It's awesome and I'm going to do it another 25-30 years, change the future of my family for the better.
You sound burnt ** out bro.
There's more to nursing than just hospitals and nursing homes. But if you you've got the mentality those jobs are beneath you or "less than" you won't see or consider them.
I am deeply saddened nursing has lost much of the honor, prestige, and respect it once had 15-20 years ago. I'm not as proud to be a nurse nowadays as before... and that really sucks.
EDIT: I just saw the date of this post.! Wonder whatever happened to OP.
I, for one, think that the type of nursing you get into has a lot to do with your enjoyment and competency in providing care to others. I currently work doing interfacility critical care transport. I love it. Basically what I did as a paramedic but as an RN I get paid ALOT more, like 50% more, than the current medics working ALS compared to SCT transport. I do the sickest of the sick, which is what I want as I have a huge degree of autonomy. In the ER, where I have worked as an RN, its more of a 'Mother may I' to do skills or treatments.
I guess everybody could come up with things that would turn someone off to their career.
Not debating what the OP stated almost a decade ago, and this is Pre-Covid, so nurses were in more demand that a lot of other times in history.
