okay, people! who is with me on this one? i am feeling a little nervous about all those slides! i'm looking forward to meeting everyone in this course!

i will gather up any useful sites i find in the last med micro club and elsewhere and put them in this post!

here's a start ..

some sites from fall 05 club:

Okay, answering my own question I guess but all I put for "density" were adjectives along the line of "light -- medium -- high"; for "reflectance," I used one of the adjectives "transparent, translucent and opaque"; for "consistency" -- well, I still didn't exactly know -- we wound up putting "dry gel" ROTFL. Okay ... if anyone actually knows if any of these are remotely right, let me know!

It was fun going back to check our little "growths" .. we had done 2 samples of different bacteria in broth and 2 different smears in the petri dishes. It all seems pretty unfamiliar (even just observing results) but it was fun to do. Shoot, just thought -- I should have taken a picture. Duh. LOL

Hope everyone else is hanging in there. Our prof is fairly young too (as profs go) and seems nice, although rather aloof. He does seem approachable though.

You are further ahead with stuff than we are and I am sorry I don't have any answers for you. We just started today with lab and practiced using aseptic technique.....we inocculated a slant, two petri dishes, a deep and broth. It was chaotic and everyone ran around like headless chicken....the lab is small and it is full to capacity.

People are already starting to drive me crazy again with wanting to bum tape which they either should have bought for themselves or pitched in to buy as a group.....teacher said it too many times for people not to have gotten how they could go about the tape .....they know better but try it anyway and I am proud to say that I said: NO, either pay your share or no tape!

sorry that I sound mean and grumpy but I am just having one of those super frustrated episodes which will pass once I get to the point where I feel in control of the material. I am a little overwhelmed right now.

It's still early....maybe things will get better.

I had micro lab today and it was awful!!!!!!!!!!!

You always seem so much in control and on top of things. Your strength will get you through.

I am terrified of the entire thing, too.

Hang in there!

I am praying for just that. Best wishes to you too hon.:kiss

I had my 1st Micro Lab class 2 nights ago. It was fun. My instructor is very nice.

Of course you should always be careful what you wish for!!!

In my last post about my Micro lecture course, i stated that I hope my lab instructor doesnt want to test us to death like my lecture instructor.. Well i got my wish. We have 2 tests and that's it. So if I bomb 1, i'm in trouble. Other than that, it looks like we'll have fun.

Instructor was running us out at end of class because no one wanted to leave. We looked @ different slides of bacteria and we also set up our own cultures. I swabbed the receiver on my cell phone. We'll see what kind of goodies I have floating around my mouth next week :uhoh3: Off to study for my first test!!

Good luck everyone!!

Future_RN_Jess,

I'm really sorry to hear that you aren't happy with your instructor. It makes all the difference in the world if you have good people teaching you. I had the same problem with my A&PI classes. I hated my instructor. He was awful. He wouldnt even pronounce most of the words! I got an A in the class but that was because I made friends with 2 other women in there and we had a study group every Sunday. If it wasnt for those 2, I would have failed I'm certain of it.

You'll do fine. Chin up and you know you have lots of support on here.

If you need a shoulder to cry on I will be here :)

Am I the only one who hasn't started yet??? (I start on the 18th.) I feel so left out.

hey guys. hit the ground running with micro this week-WOW! looks like theres lots of work ahead. the reading alone is intense. thank goodness i have a semester of nursing classes under my belt and some good study habits. i didnt know what hard was before n. school-LOL! hopefully i can get this class in the bag with at least a B, but want an A cuz I'm greedy like that! Gl everyone.

I am also taking Micro this semester!:) Also, I am new to this forum, so hello everyone!

Sorry to be the odd ball everyone, but I absoluted HATED my professor and the first micro class. I am so discoraged, won't get into detail but I am terrified of her.
I hope things are improving! That sucks. Maybe she is one of those ones that likes to alarm the students at first so they don't take anything for granted? Not a good way to teach imho. Sending hugs and a prayer that it will get better!

Heya, Stpauli! Ugh, that's frustrating about the lab. I have found people to be like that somewhat as well (not in Micro lab yet, more in A&P) and it doesn't help when the lab is overcrowded. I am glad you told some of them where they could get off lol. People just don't listen and they want people to spoonfeed them or bail them out.

Our lab was the first one of all the labs (I think there are 4 or 5?) and can you believe 8 people didn't show up? So it wasn't crowded there! Then I heard that one of the next labs was overcrowded to the extreme so some people are not listening and not in the right slot (they only accept 25/lab slot). Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

Well, I know people will calm down for you -- first lab jitters and all -- but if they don't, just keep yourself focused on your own thing and try not to let anyone else bother you.

I am feeling a bit overwhelmed as well with all my courses but I am feeling a little better now that I actually caught up and got a head in my A&P reading. It seems like I have to sacrifice one course for another and I know there has to be a better balance than that but I don't quite know how to get in "the zone".

I swabbed the receiver on my cell phone. We'll see what kind of goodies I have floating around my mouth next week
LOL! Now THAT should be interesting! You'll never talk on your phone again! We don't have too many tests either but more than A&P. The first one is near the end of January and it sounds like it will give us a good heads up for the rest of the testing and course. So far he has given us a little group quiz each time to review the material. I am always amazed how much has not stuck or jumped out at me from the last lecture as I was thinking I pretty much got it ... but I just have to figure out what kind of questions are asked. I need to go through my notes a bit more in depth as well after class I think. Ah well!

LOL! Hang in there!! That's coming up pretty soon! You can live vicariously through us for now and learn from all our first week mistakes. Enjoy the rest of your time off!!
