Med-Surg Unit needs to spend money

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Our unit director has asked to send in ideas of what we can buy on our unit that costs over $3000.00. Its great we have the opportunity to send in ideas. Our unit has all the general med-surg equipment including blood pressure equipment, scales, bariatric lift, wound care supplies. I thought of maybe SP02 monitors.

What does your unit have that you have found to be very useful in your practice?

Thanks.

Does any of that equipment need to be replaced?

When I was on med/surg we never had enough O2 monitors(only one), or thermometers(only four).. It was a renal floor and most of the pts have very bad veins so we invested in a vein finder.. It was a life saver :)

Accurate, stand-alone thermometers! Not the ones that are part of the blue VS machine on wheels (you know the ones!) that always read lower than the real temp!

Bladder scanners

Are there enough machines for checking blood glucoses on? Many places could use another one of those.

Bladder scanners

omg yes! I feel like my floor is the only one in the entire hospital with a bladder scanner! Even the ED borrows it :uhoh3:

SCD machines and temporal thermometers - they're way better than oral or tympanic thermometers when used correctly.

I say pulse ox, dopplers for those tricky iv starts, and every group gets their own dynamap hate having to look for one when I need it

We have dynamaps and 02 machines in every room. I can't even imagine not having them.
