Hey y'all, Just discovered this website and thread today, after finding out yesterday that I was accepted to the MDE program! Super excited, but was also planning to apply to PACE and NYU. Anyone else applying to other places if you've already gotten into Columbia?

In addition to Columbia, I applied to Fairfield (ABSN, and would follow with a Master’s in midwifery) and Yale (MDE in midwifery). So far, I’ve been accepted to Columbia and Fairfield, and interviewed for Yale yesterday. All three are very different programs - I’m going to have to do some serious thinking this month. I ultimately want to work as a nurse-midwife. Anyone else in a similar situation as mine? If so, what are your thoughts?

I applied to Columbia, Yale, Penn, and Vanderbilt for Adult-Gero Primary Care. I've been accepted to Columbia and awaiting decisions for the other programs. My preference is Yale because of the smaller cohort and price-wise, Yale appears to be cheaper (tuition and cost of living). However, since I already have a Master's degree, I am drawn to Columbia for the clinical doctorate. I've read two comments online from Columbia students saying their frustration with the lack of attention from faculty in the MDE program but praise the DNP program. I am really looking forward to the Columbia Admitted Student session with current students to learn more about the program. I hope they don't hold back from airing everything out (pluses and minuses) about their program.

Has anyone heard when Financial Aid offer letters come out? Please say it is before Jan. 29!

This captures my own motives basically perfectly. Our school set is the same too, except I applied to BC instead of Vanderbilt. I wish Yale's program was a DNP. It seems to be the same amount of work.

would anyone that was accepted be willing to share their stats? no pressure!

I cant even remember my video essay for columbia ? does anyone else feel kind of meh about their vid/timed writing?

I got accepted into the MDE program but don't know if I'm going to say yes. I got accepted into USF and it's in my city, 50k less, and longer, less intense program. I've been hearing from a ton of nursing students and NPs that ultimately what matters is your licensure. The experience of going to Columbia and living in NY is what calls me....but IDK. My brain and heart are having an intense battle right now.

As for my stats: I graduate summa cum with a BA in Psych from CSULA. I was a research assistant at my school for a project related to emotional psychology and aging. I worked in Argentina for almost half a year as a documentary producer for a human rights film about the 70s/80s dictatorship. Worked as a caretaker for a child on the spectrum for about 3 years and worked at an urgent care as a front desk associate for about a year. I volunteered at the oncology unit at my local hospital for a couple of months.

My prereqs that I took before my upper division school at a community college: I got A's in Psych, Nutrition, Stats, Anatomy, and B's in in Micro and Physio.

I fully believe what really helps is your writing and video essay. I practiced like crazy and edited my writing pieces a bajillion times. You have to be comfortable talking to practiced writers that can properly critique your writing.

If I say no, I am passing on good vibes to anyone who gets my spot. You all deserve this!

Sounds like Yale would be the ideal program if it pans out, however Fairfield and Columbia are both great options to have!

Hey everyone!

Congrats to those who are accepted! And good luck to all who are still waiting : )

As an international student, I wanna ask if there are any other international students here?

Hey everyone! First of all, congrats to those who got accepted! I’m still waiting to hear back. However, I was accepted to Drexel University’s ACE program. I do want to wait for Columbia’s decision before I commit to Drexel.

Also, here are my stats/background:

Cumulative GPA: 3.29/4.00

Pre reqs grades:
AP1 - A/ AP2 - B+/ Microbiology - B+/ Psychology - A-/ Statistics - B/ Nutrition - B+ (I retook both AP1/2)

Experience: Been working as an MA at an outpatient clinic for over a year. I volunteered at soup kitchens and a hospital. I was also a member of 3 clubs!

Hope this helps!

Did anyone else apply to the Columbia MDE Maxwell Honors program? I've not heard back on this application.

@Elizabethg Sorry, I guess my question was a little vague... I'm having trouble deciding if Columbia is my top choice out of the three. I think all three schools (Columbia, Pace, and NYU) have great programs, and I've tried to go into this process without really having a 'top choice' because I didn't want to be disappointed if I didn't get the one I wanted. Columbia is obviously a great school and I'm super excited about it, but am wondering how it compares to other accelerated programs in the city (other than the glaring difference of the masters vs bachelors degrees). Anyone have any insight into how it compares? If you were to apply and get into all three (not that I have, but if I did), where would you go and why?

I was accepted to Columbia, but I was also accepted to the 2021 Spring Pace cohort, which starts in a few weeks. I absolutely plan to become an NP (not sure of my specialty though) and pursue leadership roles. I'm going to go to Pace for a few reasons: cost of attendance, length of program, I want to work as an RN for a bit either before or during my masters to gain experience. I'm thinking it's more efficient for me to become an RN through Pace's program, and if I want a masters or doctorate from Columbia, I can try to get a job at a CU affiliated location and earn sponsored tuition. All routes are valid, this is just my reasoning for the path I'm taking!

That sounds like a great plan! Good luck at Pace and I wish you the best on your chosen path!!

I think that is a very smart move! I wish you good luck on your journey and know you will do amazing at Pace !

Hi there! I was accepted into MDE, super grateful and excited ? was wondering if there's a gc or a thread for accepted students because I'm starting to wonder about housing (any neighborhood recommendations?), as well as how class and clinicals will function with COVID and the vaccine etc.

Hi! I was wondering the same thing, has anyone started a facebook group for accepted students? I was also accepted into the MDE program and I do not know if I am going to commit to Columbia or not yet, but I definitely want to start meeting people and discuss housing options especially since the deposit is due so soon.

Thanks!
