MDE Columbia University 2021

Published

Hey ! I know im super early to make this thread for the MDE program at Columbia for the 2021 start year ? but I was wondering if there are any future nurses out there as eager as me to get started !!

Still checking my inbox as a habit even though the emails went out yesterday all at one time ? How’s everyone doing?

Same! Partly because I’m waiting for other schools as well. I haven’t received decisions from any school I applied to yet and the suspense is killing me. I just want to know!! ???

@By8, I'm also from CA (Orange County).  Where in CA are you at? I agree, the thought of moving to NYC is both thrilling and nerve-wracking.  It is also difficult to know what everything will be like with COVID.

Does anyone know if they'll be sending a separate email notifying us when financial aid information is posted, or are we just supposed to check back on the portal?

I'll keep my fingers crossed for everyone who is waiting for a decision.  Personally, looking at other people's stats just made me feel more nervous or scared I didn't stack up/was inadequate.  You guys all sound so impressive, like hand-knitting t-shirt lines for orphans in Uganda while obtaining dual master degrees and making your own brand of vitamin waters LOL.  Just remember, even if you feel that way looking at other people's stats (like I did), it's not all about stats...It seems like they are looking for a diverse applicant pool with varying personalities and interests.  We all have something valuable to offer, and they stress that it is a holistic application.

So many amazing applicants with interesting backgrounds!! It would be awesome to be able to share in your guys' joy!! Congratulations everyone!

LMAO I’ve reread my personal statement and social equity essay a million times!!

I’m trying to stay positive! reading everyone’s stats makes me happy because it’s nice to see the wide range of applicants here. I have a lot of faith that columbia will review holistically and I’m trying really hard to remember not to stress over things I cannot control (not working tho cuz I refresh this thread a million times a day)

Literally same ! Im glad Columbia takes an holistic approach to applications because they want a diverse cohort with so many amazing people and different backgrounds. So crossing my fingers everyone on this thread gets accepted ?

I think the sharing of STATS is pretty bizarre in my opinion. I don't think it gives any insight into admission decisions. I think the greater message is to trust in one's candidacy and practice patience until decisions are released.

Off my soap box... Can anyone confirm the cost of the MDE and DNP program? I see MDE tuition is $87,242. And, DNP is $66,156 per year. Are there any classes from MDE that apply to DNP program. I know there are many other fees.

thanks for offering your opinion! I asked for stats to be shared because I was worried about GPA and I was hoping it’d give hope/encouragement for future applicants or even current applicants that not everyone applying here is perfect. I didn’t ask because I was trying to brag (LOL not like I had anything to brag about grade wise anyways)! it just helped me a lot personally to see that not everyone that applied had perfect scores/grades and/or healthcare experience.

trusting in your candidacy can be hard sometimes HAHA

Yeah, that would be easy for someone who already has an acceptance to say.
Which congratulations on that!

Hi Everyone! I received my decision email yesterday and was accepted into the MDE program! I didn't apply for any of the NP track since I'm undecided on what specialty I want to do yet, and I'm leaning towards more neonatal so it didn't make sense for me to apply to the NP track program.

Just curious if any of you are coming from out of state! I'm from California and the idea of moving to a new city is thrilling yet nerve-wracking!

Also, I was wondering if anyone had an idea whether there is a difference between MS vs MSN. I asked a few people at the hospital I work at but no one seems to know the difference. I did some research as well and it says they are comparable credentials and it's based on what is stated on the diploma. Hopefully, someone may have a better insight on this?

Congrats to those who have been accepted and for those still waiting on decisions, I'll be rooting for you!

I am from LA! I am stressed out about moving too! But enjoy your moment right now and worry about it in two months.

I don’t plan on taking a whole lot of stuff. There’s probably no space anyway. You can look into GreyHound Package Express, USHIP, Amtrak Express Shipping (currently suspended due to COVID) or even UPS Ground. I’m still exploring options but those are what I’ve learnt so far.
