MDE Columbia University 2021

Published

Hey ! I know im super early to make this thread for the MDE program at Columbia for the 2021 start year ? but I was wondering if there are any future nurses out there as eager as me to get started !!

In one of the info sessions, admission said the tuition cost of the MDE program was $118K.

What’s the subject of the acceptance email? Is it a link or just a plain email?

I’ve always seen stats shared on admissions forums. Even if it doesn’t give a direct explanation of who does and doesn’t get accepted to a program, it does allow applicants to get an idea of everyone’s experiences and backgrounds. No harm, no foul on sharing whether you choose to or not. And if it breeds excessive anxiety for you, try to refresh less often like me! Hang in there, everyone!

I agree !! I think sharing stats is not a bad thing. It's just getting to know applicants and their diverse backgrounds. Of course those with higher stats does not always guarantee acceptance compared to lower stats. It's just nice to see everyone with different backgrounds and experience. Applying to nursing school is such an exciting yet anxious thing to do, especially for the wait! So majority of us are all in the same boat, especially since we haven’t heard back about decisions yet.

I am sorry if I offended anyone by sharing my stat >< . I was trying to highlight that despite having good academic background, I have 0 healthcare exposure. I did make my intention really clear in my statement that I would like to use my research background to work in public health sector. I was really surprised that I got in with my 0 healthcare exposure!

I guess I just want to let future applicants to know that it’s very critical to state your goal in your PS and show how your experiences lead you to that!

@babyalph2021, I don't think you have anything to apologize for!  Some people were requesting others' stats.  I was just speaking to anyone who may have felt like me (inadequate compared to some others' AMAZING accomplishments) to not put themselves down or think they automatically won't get accepted if their background seems different/less impressive.

Congrats btw ?

Hey y'all, Just discovered this website and thread today, after finding out yesterday that I was accepted to the MDE program! Super excited, but was also planning to apply to PACE and NYU. Anyone else applying to other places if you've already gotten into Columbia?

Congrats! Is Columbia your top choice ? Because if it is, then I would just commit to Columbia instead of applying else where. If not, then you can apply to other schools. Just remember for those who got accepted you have until January 29th to save your seat !

@Elizabethg Sorry, I guess my question was a little vague... I'm having trouble deciding if Columbia is my top choice out of the three. I think all three schools (Columbia, Pace, and NYU) have great programs, and I've tried to go into this process without really having a 'top choice' because I didn't want to be disappointed if I didn't get the one I wanted. Columbia is obviously a great school and I'm super excited about it, but am wondering how it compares to other accelerated programs in the city (other than the glaring difference of the masters vs bachelors degrees). Anyone have any insight into how it compares? If you were to apply and get into all three (not that I have, but if I did), where would you go and why?

Hi! I work with nurses/NPs at the doctors office I work at and I asked what the difference is. They said that if you want a leadership role it’s good to have your maters in nursing, but if you wanted to be a RN then it’s best to do an accelerated nursing program like PACE, NYU, or Stonybrook, for example. They said the MDE/DNP program is best if you want to accelerate getting your nurse practitioner degree. Hope that helps!

I agree with @srt0916. All schools are great but you would rather just be an RN you can do an accelerated bachelors or even the accelerated masters at Columbia. If you’re goal is to move on take on leadership roles and become a nurse practitioner then it would be easier to do at Columbia because of their DNP program. Which is also getting your doctorate degree. Both PACE and NYU have masters programs though, after you obtain your ABSN. So it’s basically your choice on where you see yourself career wise ! For me I choose Columbia because I personally want a masters degree and want to become a PMHMP with my doctorate

I am from LA! I am stressed out about moving too! But enjoy your moment right now and worry about it in two months.

I don’t plan on taking a whole lot of stuff. There’s probably no space anyway. You can look into GreyHound Package Express, USHIP, Amtrak Express Shipping (currently suspended due to COVID) or even UPS Ground. I’m still exploring options but those are what I’ve learnt so far.

I'm from SF! Thank you for letting me know about the different shipping options! I also don't plan on bringing too much (hopefully, always a struggle in deciding) and thinking about just buying the basic necessities/furniture when I get there.

Hi there! I was accepted into MDE, super grateful and excited ? was wondering if there's a gc or a thread for accepted students because I'm starting to wonder about housing (any neighborhood recommendations?), as well as how class and clinicals will function with COVID and the vaccine etc.
