Hey ! I know im super early to make this thread for the MDE program at Columbia for the 2021 start year ? but I was wondering if there are any future nurses out there as eager as me to get started !!

if you want to become an NP you can go to another school in another state (such as CT) and obtain an MSN degree which is usually less in length than a DNP (depends on the program). But usually you’ll need to have work experience as an RN before applying to MSN or even DNP programs!
it’s also an MN (masters of nursing) and MSN (masters of science in nursing) ... not MS (masters of science).
But you’re right in the regards of what the degrees mean!
MSN and MS are pretty similar is just a rebranding that many schools are using right now. Even FL is using the same tittles. Regardless of it the basics are that you will just get a bachelor if doing an accelerated program either tittles MS or MSN. The end game is that you can take the NCLEX and work as a Registered Nurse or go down the NP route. In NY, NYU, Pace, SUNY, CUNY they all offer the NP master. Only Columbia so far turned it into a Doctorate program. So:
Columbia - MDE - end as RN or DNP ends as a DNP
NYU - BS in Nursing= RN then MSN to NP
same process for Pace. Also Phillips school of nursing or Concordia college, or SUNY. My plan is to do the accelerated in Columbia and work as a nurse while doing the PMHNP in SUNY or other school less expensive.
Hi all !
I've been lurking for a while and decided to make an account. I did not get a decision yet which is a bit discouraging but I know there will be a second round coming up soon. Congrats to those who already got accepted !! You guys have more time to figure out arrangements and get things ready before class starts, must be so exciting !

Hey ! Im sure majority of those in this thread are in the same boat as you ! I wonder if Columbia considers you in the second round if you receive a rejection in the first rounds ? Hmm crossing my fingers !

If you already got a decision whether it is an acceptance or rejection, it is still a decision. You won't be considered in the second rounds. Those who are considered in the second rounds are those who haven't received a decision at all yet. You would have to apply again for next year.

Uhm..I don't think that's how it works ? You get considered in the second rounds if you don't make it in the first round. As in if you don't get accepted

For those who haven't received a decision, they are the ones who will be considered in the second round.
For those who have already received a decision, the decision is final.
Does anyone know if Columbia will be remotely learning this coming year ? I know I haven’t gotten a decision yet but I am still wondering if I want to still go if we’re doing schooling remotely. Because I don’t necessarily want to pay all that money if we don’t get the learning experience in the actual school.

Someone said they sent out acceptances and rejections in the first round. For us who didn’t hear back we will hear something in the second round
