This behavior is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. The students should contact the dean, ethics committee, and other resources available to them within the school. Hopefully, the school will take corrective action against the instructors and also review their past actions to see if any potential harm to grades/ students was ever done.

While it is quite emotionally taxing to be berated by family members, people will grieve in their own ways. However, there is no reason for you to be subjected to threats or overly aggravated behavior. Consider calling the chaplain's office and other end of life resources to comfort family members if they are available to you at your facility.

Feelings of anxiety and insecurity in your decisions are NORMAL when taking on a new role with this much autonomy! Utilize the resources available to you and ASK when you have questions. Learning is a process which never stops, if you don't feel confident in managing the conditions, speak with your peers on which resources they used to learn and consider checking uptodate as well!

While I'm not an NP or even an RN, I think this problem will continue to be widespread due to nursing schools actively recruiting those without any experience in healthcare, RN or otherwise into direct entry RN to DNP/APRN programs. Many PA programs require at a minimum some exposure to patient care as well as shadowing, however many of the direct entry programs I've seen require nothing from their applicants except a limited pool of prerequisites and a bachelors degree. I've met many great NP's working in my current role, so I can't honestly make a judgement call as to if these programs tend to churn out successful students.

Super interesting that you want to do something like this. I feel extending care into medically underserved areas/populations is one of the primary benefits of allowing independent practice for NPs.

I think Juan makes a great point in that you should keep an eye on jobs that are available, and in a specialty similar to that you would want to practice in. Obviously working as a NICU would give you exposure to critical patients and some of the theory behind critical care, but not all of the information will be able to transfer over as easily to adult patients as something like a MICU

You should change this attitude, all the best positions will come to those who pursue it aggressively. Call around or find out who the hiring reps are on linkedin and ask about the positions you're interested in. Being passive will keep you in the same place, be active and keep a forward momentum in your career!

I was accepted this round! If you didn't get in yet, KEEP AT IT. I was waitlisted and unfortunately never accepted last year, but made it this year! Stats for those interested; Bachelors in Emergency Health Sciences 3.88 degree GPA, however my true GPA is probably closer to 3.2 since I did fairly poorly my first few years of college prereqs; psych: B, A+P 1/2: B/A, Micro: A, stats and nutrition pending, but previously taken both with A and B- (which was not sufficient per Columbia) 5 years full time employment as a Paramedic They are asking for a $500 deposit by 3pm on January 29. It's a pretty hefty sum compared to some schools for sure.

Figured Id post the email for those of you who did not receive it. I'm not quite sure if this is applicable to anyone as many of us are quite a ways through the required prerequisites that we would need and the start dates for these are not until the start of the MDE program anyways.
