I still haven't received the email! Anyone else waiting?

Does anyone have an idea on when decisions will be released?

I would wait until at least Halloween so next week before getting more worried. They are going through a good number of applications and we gotta give them time. There seems to be no order of by when it was submitted, be it by our names, last names, ect, as they review because some who submitted by the deadline have heard back and some who did so before still haven’t.  I haven’t heard anything yet either.

They haven’t updated us yet. Last year they were released on January 27. This year it’s different as they are doing it in phases.

Hi everyone!

I was just accepted to another MSN program but only given until Nov 6th to commit. Since it seems like we won't hear from Columbia before then any recommendations on what I should do if Columbia is my preferred program?

Congratulations Andy M.

You can go about this a couple different ways, either bite the bullet and pay the deposit for your program that just accepted you and wait for Columbia. OR decline your offer at the first school and keep being hopeful that Columbia will accept you. If I were you I would pay the deposit to secure your spot. That’s what I will be doing

Congrats Andy! I guess it comes down to whether or not getting into any MSN program is more important to you than getting into your preferred MSN program. I cant speak of how competitive the program you were accepted to was but if it was as competitive as Columbia is, then you must be a pretty competitive candidate and theoretically have a good shot at Columbia and might be in a good position to decline that school and await Columbia's decision. If that program wasn't that competitive or was your "back up school", like KAS212 said above, I would pay the seat deposit (if it isn't astronomically high) and then just forfeit that money if you get accepted into Columbia. Honestly that is my plan. Columbia is my top choice but I applied to a few backup ABSN and MSN programs and if I get accepted into one of those programs I plan to pay the deposit and then forfeit it if I find out I'm accepted to Columbia later. After this crazy year of polishing my resume and getting my prerequisite courses done and Covid of course, id rather be in any program even if it isn't my top choice.

Also of note for the whole group:

Columbia is competitive no doubt, but they received roughly 950 applications for 200 spots which equates to about a 21% acceptance rate which is low but theoretically a 1 in 5 chance at this point now that you'll get a seat. In actuality too, those 950 apps are 950 completed apps. Just because someone submitted a completed app doesn't mean they fit all the requirements, ect so that number would probably drop by a little bit once they work through the selection process which ups our chances even greater! Plus, since all of us here have taken time to read and post on this message board, we must be serious about nursing and this program so we all must have taken the time to figure out what Columbia likes to see and present ourselves in the best way and pass on tips and tricks to others during the application period. To me, this makes us already more competitive than the average candidate and improves our chances even further! Sorry if it seems like a lot of numbers but its helped me maintain my optimism during this undetermined waiting period and hopefully it can help some of you do the same!

Hi everyone, I still haven’t received any email from indicating that my application has been forwarded for review. Should I be worried? When I submitted my application in 10/14, everything was complete, including all 3 recommendations. I wonder if anyone else is in the same position as me.

A lot of us are in the same boat as you, so don’t worry. It's just the waiting game now unfortunately. I believe applicants are chosen randomly when reviewing, and not depending on when we submitted the app. So we just have to be patient even though im beyond anxious ?

Hi!

I also have not received any information or email regarding the forwarding of review. I don't think you have to worry much since there seems to be a handful of people who did not receive anything. With that said, I'm a bit worried... ?

You don't even know how anxious I am, haha!! Especially because I know that I royally messed up my video essay, oh man.

Hey thread! Hope you're all doing okay with the anxiety of the waiting game. For me a pleasant daydream of the moment I'm accepted quickly becomes an anxiety ridden calculation of the days/hours/seconds until I may or may not hear back from them...And, I'm kinda guessing y'all are VERY like me in that regard. Maybe this will help you, too:

I've found it really cathartic to go to old threads on here for this program and read that they went through the same thing. It can put the cycle of all of this in perspective for me when I'm feeling at the mercy of this whole process. The application process, I felt in control of; the decision making and waiting...not so much.

But they went through it too. If nothing else, it may help with the visualization of what may happen for all of us over the next couple months! I did for me  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

No spoilers, but around page 17 is in January.

X
