Hey ! I know im super early to make this thread for the MDE program at Columbia for the 2021 start year ? but I was wondering if there are any future nurses out there as eager as me to get started !!

Hello!

I emailed them a while back regarding this and they said that if you're missing anything from the application they will reach out to you. If you are not missing anything, then don't worry about it. ?

I also did not get the email that some people have gotten in here.

Could it be decisions can be sent as early as January? The anticipation is real LOL.  

I am not too sure when we will hear back. They mentioned that they will update us as the process goes on. However, they are having a virtual info session this Wednesday, Nov 11, at 12pm EST if you want to ask them any questions.

I think the first round will be released in December.

Thanks! I attended some of that session just now and this is what he said:

There's a 30% increase in applications this year (as we already knew).

Historically, this wave process has been done once before during challenging times.

They anticipate decisions for December, and when they finalize their timeline another email will be sent out regarding this, however, he did not disclose when this email will be sent.

He also mentioned they received many emails regarding applicants already getting decisions from other schools too which, is what I would assume, is why they may be pressed to expedite the process to combat this.

Thanks so much for this! Unfortunately, due to work schedules and different time zones I am unable to attend most of these sessions ?. So, thank you soooo much everyone because I'm getting so much help from this thread!

They mentioned that when they finalize a timeline, they will send us an email.

Hey guys, I have been reading through this thread for a while and was hoping someone might be able to answer this question: People have mentioned that they know of those who have been accepted to the program with very low gpas, does that mean that Columbia is not super strict with pre-req grades? In other words, if you have below a B on the pre-reqs would you still be considered, or are you automatically disqualified?

No it does not count for the prerequisites grades. We need a B or higher.  But for your undergraduate/graduate GPA they don’t mind low GPA since they take an holistic approach to the application.

No, though they have been known to accept people with low GPAs they still require a minimum of a B or greater in the pre-reqs. It’s their way of knowing that despite a low GPA we can handle the courses and can succeed in the program. I had a B- in anatomy and I applied last year. I was told I needed to retake it. After outlining my plans to retake this class my application went on to the admission review.

Acceptance - for MDE not the mde/DNP program
