Hi guys!
I was hoping to get to know some of the people that will be applying to the Spring 12 nursing program.
I've been following the MDC Fall 2011 =) thread and I'm super excited for them, but now I'm even more excited since this time it's finally me who is applying to the nursing program.
So...who else is applying???? :redbeathe
Oh I see, well I am very glad that everything has worked out for you. I am sorry you have to go through all this again but in the end what doesnt kill you will only make you stronger! hehe. Im sure you will be accepted again, your scores are outstanding, but just like everyone else, good luck! Did you happen to attend the orientation last semester? or did you drop your spot before that? I am just trying to figure out what the schedule is like. Is it a mon-fri 9-5 deal or is it different times for different people. I dont understand why the school refuses to post more useful information to help people plan their lives around going to school! Its like a mystery and the faculty at the school pretend not to know anything about the program!
No, I didn't attend orientation, as I knew it wasn't going to work out for me at that point. MDC gives you 2 weeks to accept or decline, so that the 2nd round of letters can go out to those next on the list, and I declined my spot within that time frame. Fortunately, I will be ablle to accept this time hehe.
As far as schedule, I know that nothing is written in stone. There are several groups of students, and each has classes and clinicals at specifics days and times. It's not going to be a typical 9 to 5 schedule, and it's impossible to say right now exactly how it will break down. The clinicals will depend on when the partner hospitals/nursing homes can do them, and the classes, I imagine, will be scheduled around those times. Also, I've been told that schedules frequently change, and the students have no choice but to be flexible and change their schedules accordingly.
Speaking with many nurses, they say that's honestly one of the reasons that nursing school is so difficult; it's tough to hold down a job, take care of kids, look after family, and have a social life when you have so much work to do AND your schedule is fluid. If it's what we want, we must do whatever it takes, and we must make everyone in our lives that we depend on, and those that depend on us, aware of this.
The wait continues!!!
Thank you so much yisy I hope we get in especially after this much work. Zepp, I knew it was going to be an issue so I am leaving my job if i get accepted. I cannot afford to work and study for this or else i might explode. Btw, does anyone know the final tally for the amount of applications they received for the spring semester?
Yisy thanks for the welcome
I am feeling very nervous today but I am so excited that the application deadline is here!! Hopefully we will all be receiving the good news soon enough. I applied 3 weeks ago and am keeping my fingers crossed.
Good luck to everyone
BTW I don't know about all of you, but this is how I'm going to be feeling for the next 2 months

Hey zepphead! thanks for the info!
Pnky i have applied for both transitional and generic. hopefully I get at least one! I think if I had a choice between the two, I would probably go with generic any way. What certification do you have to do transitional? Im wondering if my education as a paramedic is a good enough basis to have the knowledge to complete nursing... the way a nurse thinks is completely different than the way a paramedic is taught to think. I just want to be the best nurse I can. Even if it means 1 more semester of school. As far as working at the same time. I would really like to keep working and going to school. it would make life a lot easier if I worked. But if it interferes with school then deifnately the full time work will have to go! Hopefully we all get a chance to do our best! Happy waiting to all of you!
Hey pnky!
Good luck getting into the transitional program! The advisor who accepted my application said they acceot about 40-50 applicants for the transitional program, but she said that there are a lot less applicants for the transition program. They also accept between 100-150 for the generic. My scores were TEASE- 81% and my GPA is 3.74 with a science GPA of about 3.5... hopefully it will be enough. Im still kicking my butt about the "C" I got in A+P I five years ago! UUUGGHHH! lol. Oh well. nothing to do now but wait. How are your scores?
hello to all,
i just joined the forum and i am so glad i found this thread because i am a nervous wreck right now.
i applied for the mdc 2012 spring program on 8/30/11.
i am very worried because i got a 78 on the teas and i have a 3.8 science gpa.
following the calculations that are noted here on the thread my magic no. is 84.8
i am feeling pessimistic about my scores. according to my results i am at the 86% percentile for the program
does anyone know approximately how many people applied?

Tomorrow will be a month since I applied to the program and I haven't gone crazy..... yet.
